Key Position Details:

  • FTE 1.0 (80 hours per two week pay period)
  • 8-hour day shift
  • No weekends
  • Daytime flexible; hybrid with some hours at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, United Hospital or Allina Commons

Job Description:

Leads the strategy and vision for Library and Patient Education services, including leading a team of professionals to develop, curate, and/or locate evidence-based information and make it easily accessible. Strategically aligns resources, services, and tools to stakeholder needs while carrying out Allina Health's mission to provide exceptional care to help people live healthier lives.

Principle Responsibilities
  • Operations Management
    • Builds and fosters relationships with key stakeholders of diverse backgrounds across the organization to understand and support the information needs for systemwide initiatives and strategic priorities.
    • Assesses services, resources, and tools regularly using quantitative and qualitative data. Uses data along with financial and health equity considerations to inform changes to operations.
    • Monitors and documents outcomes of patient education initiatives and modifies as needed to improve outcomes.
    • Develops annual budget and manages financial performance to budget.
    • Ensures high quality of services, resources, and tools, including external vendor contract management.
    • Maintains current knowledge of professional standards by participating in networking, organizations, and continued education.
  • Communication and Promotion Management
    • Oversees the development and maintenance of the Library Services and Patient Education web/intranet presence and outreach communications (e.g. newsletters, social media, brochures).
    • Seeks out new opportunities to train staff on library and patient education resources, services, and tools; ensures best practices in training delivery.
  • Resource Management
    • Manages a wide range of resources (e.g. databases, e-journals, educational content)
    • Negotiates contracts and pricing, and maintains good working relations with vendors.
    • Partners with Information Services on resource integration in digital environments such as EPIC, SharePoint, and the learning management system.
    • Manages solutions for mobile and remote access, single sign on and other technologies that improve access.
  • Leadership
    • Provides day-to-day management of staff.
    • Recruits, hires, and onboards new talent.
    • Supports development of staff through coaching, mentoring and timely feedback.
    • Develops retention strategies aimed at driving high team morale and engagement. Ensure role clarity among team members and across departments.
    • Provides meaningful development opportunities to develop team core competencies and help team members grow in their careers.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Library, Information Science, Health Education, or related field
  • 5+ years experience as a health educator or in library services in a healthcare setting
  • 5+ years working experience with evidence-based practice and adult education
  • 5+ years experience managing people, leading projects/programs and teams that work across department, divisions and/or service lines


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Library, Information Science, Health Education, or related field

Pay Range

Pay Range: $44.64 to $61.76 per hour

The pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience and education. Additional incentives may be available, including discretionary monetary bonuses, goal-based bonuses, and other financial incentives.
