Job Summary and Qualifications

The Nurse Manager is responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations of the emergency department. He/she is also responsible for the supervision of assigned personnel. The Nurse Manager creates a common vision to facilitate continuous quality improvement in the delivery of patient care in support of the organization's mission and vision. The Nurse Manager assumes the role as leader in planning, organizing, coaching, and facilitating his/her department functions in collaboration with the Director and staff to assure quality service is provided.

Responsible for helping the Director meet JCAHO standards, complying with the organization's policies and procedures, for promoting teamwork with physicians and all healthcare providers, for promoting internal and external customer satisfaction and for appropriate resource management.

The position requires intimate knowledge of both department and hospital policies and procedures relevant to the delivery of nursing care. Interpretive skills, frequent interactive and consultative associations along with management and supervisory skills are inherent in the position. The ability to retrieve, communicate or otherwise present information in a written, auditory or visual fashion is essential. Written, computer, telephones kills and manual dexterity are required. Ability to function in all nursing areas of the department. Specific responsibilities include nursing quality improvement, audits, policies and procedures, productivity, staffing and scheduling, program development, special projects and assists with managing supplies and equipment. Bedside patient care as needed to support departmental operations and meet metric goals.

Implements and enforces all applicable policies and procedures for the departments as well as those for Memorial Hospital and HCA.

Maintains a healthy work environment.

Performs disciplinary actions when required and addresses employee issues as needed.

Completes andsubmits90-day and annual Nursing/Paramedic performance evaluations.

Completes and validates necessary competencies for all assigned staff, as appropriate.

Assists the Director in preparing Emergency Services for any State or Federal inspections/reviews or Surveys.

Works as liaison between Imaging, Laboratory and contracted support staff.

Ensures proper QA and QC procedures are performed.

Checks/monitors Kronos entries for staff nurses.

Oversees and coordinates ED staff paid time off requests, including coverage.

Ensures that new employee orientations are completed in a timely manner.

Consistently works to improve nurses' work environment and processes.

Attends all necessary Nursing and QA meetings.

Represents the nursing staff in departmental committees, work groups, and teams that address performance improvement and customer service.

Updates the Emergency department staff with changes in Hospital policies/procedures.

Works as department preceptor for competencies and required training.

Works with the Director and ED Physicians to resolve all Nursing/Staff issues.

Oversees the interview process for Emergency staff applicants.

What qualifications you will need:
