Merchandise Financial Planning Manager

Your strong financial acumen, strategic mindset, and leadership capabilities make you a great fit for our Merchandise Financial Planning Manager position. Join our dynamic team and play a critical role in driving merchandise financial performance, supporting strategic business objectives, and partnering with leadership to execute the merchant vision.

About Your Role:

As a Merchandise Financial Planning Manager at Dollar Tree, you'll oversee the development, maintenance, and execution of merchandise financial plans for sales, margin, and inventory to achieve financial targets for a Merchandise Division. In this highly collaborative role, you'll serve as the primary financial planning resource for the General Merchandise Manager (GMM) and Category Director, providing strategic insights and recommendations that support category strategies, operational execution, and company goals.

Your day-to-day job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Merchandise Financial Planning & Strategy:
  • Oversee merchandise financial planning to execute the merchant vision in support of strategic and financial objectives
  • Develop, maintain, and revise financial plans for sales, margin, and inventory performance
  • Drive the monthly Open-to-Buy process to ensure alignment with business goals and inventory strategies
  • Review opportunities associated with current financial performance and provide recommendations to capitalize on opportunities and mitigate risks


Business Partnership & Financial Guidance:
  • Partner closely with the GMM and Category Director to align merchandise financial plans with category strategy, merchant vision, and company goals
  • Provide financial guidance and analytical support to cross-functional teams
  • Support strategic decision-making through financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting
  • Build strong partnerships across merchandising, planning, and operational teams to support business objectives


Leadership & Team Development:
  • Lead, mentor, train, and develop a team of 3-5 Merchandise Financial Planners
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment focused on accountability and continuous improvement
  • Provide coaching and development opportunities to strengthen analytical and financial planning capabilities


Operational Excellence & Performance Management:
  • Monitor financial trends, inventory performance, and key business metrics to support operational execution
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting, and financial planning methodologies
  • Support a fast-paced environment by balancing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively


Your Required Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree (BA / BS / BFA) or equivalent experience required
  • 6-10 years of related experience
  • Deep understanding of and experience in retail planning
  • Strong communication, financial analysis, and leadership skills
  • Experience managing people and teams
  • Ability to confidently interact with all levels of management
  • Strong ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Merchandise financial planning experience preferred
