Full Job Description
Overview

Rhode Island Energy's Electric Distribution Design Department is responsible for all of the electrical designs for our distribution line and sub transmission line system. Your team consists of both an internal supervisors, management engineers and represented designers as well as contracted designers. Direct reports to the manager are several supervisors who manage the internal designer's day to day as well as manage our Design processes associated with design drawings and as-built collection, etc. The manager also owns and maintains the contracts and relationships with our contracted external Design firms for which we have a Master Service Agreement (MSA). In addition to the Supervisor of Maps and Records, there are also several direct reporting liaison engineers who assign, review and approve the day-to-day external designs. #RIE #INDRIE

Responsibilities
• Develop and manage ongoing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders in order to identify and deliver solutions that benefit both parties.
• Work with business units, such as Operations, Asset Management and our Customer Group, to translate requirements and business objectives into well-defined design work plan.
• Provide specific technical support to all external design firms with regard to design related issues
• Monitor and/or assess engineering and design working practices to ensure they are compliant with relevant regulations and internal standards
• Work closely with Safety in order to identify and respond appropriately to any potential hazards, incidents or circumstances that impact the safety, well being and working environment of employees within Distribution Design and promote the philosophy of safe team working to these employees
• Develop strategic alliances with multiple Design vendors and support these initiatives by leveraging new technologies, applications, and work practices
• Represent the Distribution Design Department at various planning and scheduling meetings
• Challenge existing processes and develop and implement innovative business solutions that increase efficiency and productivity
• Be available during storm events and have a regular emergency role

Qualifications
• ABET Accredited bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology
• 8+ years of experience in engineering
• Demonstrated leadership skills by achieving positive results under non-ideal circumstances
• Working knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry codes and standards related to the electric utility industry

Preferred Qualifications
• Comprehensive knowledge of department programs, policies, procedures and business plans
• Demonstrated ability to provide technical direction to technical and non-technical personnel
• Knowledge of advanced management theories, practices and techniques
• Sound judgment, technical insight, and strong initiative to direct other engineers on resolution of complex issues
• Strong verbal and written communication and influencing skills
• Ability to work well with individuals on all levels of the organization.
