Full Job Description
Manager, Embedded Firmware Delivery

Needham, MA
The Opportunity

This is a working leadership role - you lead the team and you still read the code.

As Manager, Embedded Firmware Delivery, you own day-to-day delivery for SharkNinja's embedded firmware organization: schedule, quality, and scope for the firmware programs and platform work we keep internally. You'll lead a team of Senior Embedded Firmware Developers implementing the designs, carrying enough technical depth to review their code, make day-to-day design calls, and unblock them when something stalls.

You'll report to the Director, Embedded Firmware, as a peer to the Embedded Firmware Architecture manager. That manager owns the standards and architecture applied to the designs; you own implementation and feature delivery against them, and you decide how the team's time gets spent across concurrent programs.
What You'll Own
Team & Delivery Leadership
  • Lead, hire, and develop the delivery-focused Senior Embedded Firmware Developers within the US embedded firmware team.
  • Delivery commitments for internally developed embedded firmware - schedule, quality, and scope.
  • Code review, day-to-day technical direction, and design guidance for the team, with enough hands-on depth to make credible technical calls.
  • Workload allocation, sprint planning, and capacity across concurrent programs.
Delivery Execution
  • Deliver firmware in the areas retained internally: device control, OTA, and differentiated product features.
  • Execute against defined architecture, interface, and HAL standards.
  • Ensure firmware integrates cleanly with hardware, cloud services, mobile applications, and user interfaces.
  • Enforce engineering standards within the team - feature branches, PR-gated merges with required approvals, ticket-linked commits, unit test coverage, and static analysis on every merge.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with other global firmware leadership on programs spanning multiple sites and on shared platform work.
  • Work with the Software TPM on program sizing, schedule commitments, and cross-program dependencies.
  • Support Quality on release readiness, defect triage, and gate criteria.
  • Partner with Hardware Engineering, Systems, and NPD through bring-up and integration.
Engineering Practice
  • Drive adoption of automated testing, CI discipline, and code quality practices within the team.
  • Contribute to the reproducibility standard - ensuring internally developed programs meet the same source, toolchain, and build manifest requirements applied to partners.
  • Identify and reduce technical debt across internally owned codebases.
What You'll Bring
Experience
  • 8+ years of embedded software and firmware engineering.
  • 2+ years leading or formally mentoring embedded engineering teams. First-time people leaders with strong technical depth will be considered.
  • Hands-on delivery of production firmware for consumer electronics, home appliances, robotics, or related high-volume industries.
  • A track record establishing CI/CD, static analysis, and automated test infrastructure for embedded programs.
  • Executing against architecture and standards defined elsewhere.
  • Working alongside or coordinating with offshore development teams or external development partners.
Technical Expertise
  • Embedded C / C++ development on resource-constrained platforms.
  • Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS).
  • OTA and bootloader software update architecture.
  • Device security fundamentals.
  • Git-based workflows, CI builds (gcc, CMake, headless), unit testing (Ceedling or equivalent), and static analysis.
  • Hardware-software integration, board bring-up, and debug on target hardware.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline required.
