The Manager of Editorial and Content Strategy will oversee a comprehensive communications approach ensuring consistency in tone, voice and style. In this role you will drive editorial and content strategy to align with business goals and customer needs.. The role is designed to provide governance, training and resources that enable content creators to scale their efforts while maintaining quality and ensuring alignment with American's strategic goals and brand narrative.

What you'll do

  • Own and evolve editorial and content strategy and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure content aligns with broader business initiatives and the company's communication and narrative goals.
  • Lead a team of content strategists who work with subject matter experts to identify storytelling opportunities from around the airline and bring them to life in creative and engaging ways that resonate with internal and external audiences.
  • Support the communications and marketing planning functions by taking communication ideas from inception to final delivery, ensuring alignment with overall brand strategy.
  • Organize and maintain comprehensive content calendars to ensure timely and strategic delivery and amplification of content across traditional communications channels (Newsroom, intranet, social media, email, etc.) as well as traditional marketing-owned channels.
  • Shape and maintain a consistent brand voice, identity and style for copy across all content formats and channels while keeping the American Airlines Style Guide current. Establish and enforce content governance standards to ensure quality, accuracy and compliance.
  • Track and analyze content performance metrics to optimize strategy and demonstrate ROI.
  • Ensure all content is optimized for search engines and discoverability.
  • Stay up to date with content marketing trends, tools and technologies to continuously innovate content strategy.
  • Identify, develop and maintain new avenues for content.
  • Aggressively help tell the story of American's efforts to execute on the company's strategic objectives, including all branding and associated communications, to internal and external audiences.
  • Write and edit copy with a keen eye for detail and alignment of messaging, often on tight deadlines.


All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications or relevant field
  • 5 years relevant work experience in communications in a corporate or agency setting or as a reporter, writer, digital content strategist or related experience

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
  • Previous experience with positively and effectively leading teams, internal and external partners, connecting workgroups and teams to ensure strategies and impacts are clearly understood
  • Creative and innovative storyteller with a track record of implementing fresh content ideas and solutions
  • Mastery of AP style writing and an eye for detail
  • Self-starter who can work independently and thrive in a collaborative environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of digital communications, story trends, SEO, social media management and content distribution

  • Relentlessly hardworking, with a passion for thriving in a 24/7 environment, and excels at juggling multiple projects at one time
  • Ability to create and guide peers on various types of copy from sharp headlines, short form briefs and social copy as well as delving into complex business topics and explaining them in an understandable and engaging way
  • Ability to review copy for details and accuracy while adhering to deadlines
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, constantly changing, multi-faceted environment
  • Ability to exercise sound business judgment and handle confidential information with sensitivity
  • Thinks critically and exhibits a "no surprises" and "no stone left unturned" mentality
  • Collaborates effectively with other managers and department leadership
