Full Job Description
We are seeking a Compute Services Manager for our First Quality Enterprises, LLC company, working remotely. The Compute Services Manager leads the teams responsible for First Quality’s Enterprise Compute Platforms across on-premise data centers/server rooms and Cloud environments. This role provides strategic direction, technical leadership, and operational oversight for compute, virtualization, storage, backup, and hybrid cloud services. The Manager ensures that compute platforms are designed, built, and operated to deliver high availability, scalability, security, and performance. This position is responsible for the Data Center Services and Cloud Platform & Infrastructure Operations teams, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, lifecycle management, and modernization initiatives. The manager drives standardization across on‑premise and cloud compute platforms, develops and executes technology roadmaps, and ensures seamless service transition from design to operations. The Compute Services Manager partners closely with Identity & Integration, Network Services, Information Security, and Digital Workplace teams to ensure cohesive platform engineering and operational excellence. This leadership role is accountable for delivering reliable compute services and innovation that supports business growth, manufacturing operations, and enterprise applications. This individual is also accountable for developing the existing team members, and ensures the teams are rightsized and prepared to meet business and operational demands. Primary responsibilities include:
  • Provide leadership and direction for the Compute Services organization, encompassing the Data Center Services and Cloud Platform & Infrastructure Operations teams.

  • Develop and maintain technology roadmaps for compute, virtualization, storage, backup, and hybrid cloud platforms in partnership with Solution Architects across both teams.

  • Develop talent through coaching, feedback, and intentional growth opportunities.

  • Ensure consistent architectural standards, design patterns, and operational practices across on-premises and cloud compute environments.

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and lifecycle management of on-premises compute platforms, including server hardware, hypervisors, operating systems (Linux, Windows), Azure compute services, and enterprise backup systems.

  • Partner with Architecture teams to ensure solutions align with enterprise standards and support long-term modernization strategies.

  • Drive operational excellence through monitoring, automation, capacity planning, and continuous improvement.

  • Maintain a strong security posture across compute platforms, including patching, hardening, vulnerability remediation, and compliance.

  • Collaborate with Information Security to ensure compute services meet security and governance requirements.

  • Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and procurement for compute platforms, including contract negotiations.

  • Establish and maintain budgets for related services, capital expenditures, and operating expenses.

  • Support demand planning, project prioritization, and resource allocation across compute teams.

  • Oversee service transition processes, ensuring Build-to-Run handoffs are complete, documented, and operationally ready.

  • Provide escalation support for complex incidents and problems, driving timely resolution and root cause analysis.

  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous learning, ensuring the team is equipped with skills for current and future technologies.

The ideal candidate should possess the following:
  • Minimum 10+ years of IT infrastructure experience with responsibility for compute, virtualization, and cloud technologies.

  • Minimum 5+ years of leadership or management experience overseeing technical teams and people.

  • Technical foundation in server infrastructure and hypervisors such as VMware technologies and Nutanix AHV hyper-converged infrastructure, and hybrid cloud architectures.

  • Experience managing Cloud (Azure) compute services, landing zones, automation, cloud governance and FinOps.

  • Understanding of enterprise backup systems, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies.

  • Experience with Windows Server, Linux, Active Directory, DNS, authentication, and identity integration.

  • Strong understanding of Microsoft 365 platforms and services.

  • Proven experience in vendor management, contract negotiation, and procurement.

  • Strong project and process management skills, including experience with ITIL practices.

  • Experience in manufacturing environments preferred but not required.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to engage effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, drive change, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
