Full Job Description
Purpose

The Accounting Manager is responsible for leading the general accounting and financial reporting activities for designated Liberty Utilities operations. This role oversees the month-end close process, balance sheet integrity, regulatory accounting requirements, financial reporting, audit support, and accounting compliance activities while ensuring adherence to established accounting policies and controls.

Reporting to the Director, Accounting, they provide leadership and development for a team of accounting professionals, partners closely with Finance, Regulatory, Operations, Customer Service, and other R2R teams, and drives continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and service delivery.

The successful candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with leadership capability, business partnership skills, and a commitment to operational excellence.

Accountabilities

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities.
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and management reporting packages.
  • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting analyses.
  • Monitor close performance metrics and drive improvements to reduce cycle times and enhance quality.
  • Ensure compliance with established accounting policies and procedures.
  • Support regulatory filings, rate applications, and related accounting analyses.
  • Regulatory experience and FERC/NARUC expertise/compliance
  • Interpret and apply regulatory accounting guidance as required.
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP, SOX controls, and company policies, where applicable.
  • Assist with implementation of new accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate responses to regulatory, audit, and financial information requests.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of accountants and accounting analysts.
  • Establish individual performance objectives and development plans.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Allocate workload and resources to meet business priorities and deadlines.
  • Support succession planning and talent development initiatives.
  • Partner with operational and business leaders to provide accounting guidance and financial insights.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis activities.
  • Assist leaders in understanding financial results and key performance drivers.
  • Translate complex accounting issues into practical business solutions.
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives and strategic projects.
  • Identify opportunities to automate, standardize, and streamline accounting processes.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives across the Record-to-Report function.
  • Support ERP enhancements and implementation projects.
  • Drive best practices in reporting, reconciliations, controls, and documentation.


Education and Experience

  • University - Bachelor degree or equivalent
  • CPA designation (CPA Canada or equivalent)
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, account reconciliations, and internal controls.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience within utilities, energy, infrastructure, or other regulated industries.
  • FERC/NARUC expertise/compliance
  • Experience with SAP
  • Knowledge of regulatory accounting practices.
  • Experience supporting SOX compliance and external audits.
  • Strong technical accounting and financial reporting expertise.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.


Compensation Data

Full base salary range $107,000.00- $155,000.00 per year*Liberty considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education, training and skills, and geographic location.
