Job Description

Position Summary

The Maintenance Manager provides strategic leadership for Primary End maintenance to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of production equipment and systems. This role oversees maintenance planning, scheduling, outage execution, technical troubleshooting, and reliability improvement activities. The manager applies root cause analysis, predictive analytics, Lean methodologies, and downtime reduction approaches to improve asset performance and maintenance effectiveness. The position establishes department priorities and performance expectations, develops employees, and promotes collaboration and engagement across the maintenance team.

Main Responsibilities / Essential Functions
  • Direct maintenance activities to improve equipment reliability, availability, and performance of Primary End production equipment and systems.
  • Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance work, including outages.
  • Establish department priorities; communicate clear goals and performance expectations, develop team members, and promote collaboration, accountability, and engagement.
  • Use root cause analysis and other structured problem-solving methods to resolve recurring equipment issues and improve long-term reliability.
  • Apply Lean methodologies and continuous improvement practices to reduce downtime, improve maintenance efficiency, control cost, and support operational excellence.
  • Ensure proper utilization of plant maintenance software to track maintenance activities to appropriate assets.
  • Use maintenance data, predictive analytics, and reliability trends to identify risks, prioritize work, and support proactive decisions.
  • Coordinate internal resources, contractors, materials, equipment, and spare parts needed to complete maintenance activities and projects safely and efficiently.
  • Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting for complex problems in a high-demand manufacturing environment.
  • Partner with plant engineering and central maintenance on capital projects and the maintenance of cranes, HVAC, water systems, and other plant assets.
  • Lead by example in safety; ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures, proactively identify and resolve risks, and reinforce safe work practices.
  • Support apprentice, cooperative education, and student development programs.
  • Complete required training and ensure all team members remain current on required training.
  • Understand and support the company's goals and values and ensure adherence to company, department, safety, housekeeping, environmental, quality, and ethics policies and procedures.


About You / Qualifications

Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 10 years of heavy industrial maintenance experience, preferably in a metals manufacturing environment
  • 3 years of experience leading a production or maintenance team
  • Understanding of production planning, maintenance systems, reliability practices, and project management
  • Technical knowledge of industrial mechanical, electrical, and automation systems
  • Good computer skills, including proficiency in MES, CMMS, and M365; ability to learn and apply new digital tools, technologies, and analytics
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, collaboration, and teamwork skills


Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or a closely related field
  • 15 years of heavy industrial maintenance experience in the metals industry
  • 5 years of experience leading a production or maintenance team
  • Maintenance budget management experience
  • Melt shop experience is highly preferred
