Full Job Description
JOB SUMMARY

The Machine Shop Manager is responsible for managing the throughput and personnel of the Haas machine shop. They are responsible for managing the Machinists' performance; leading training of new machining employees; and continuously improving the quality of work through the work cell through setup improvements. They are responsible for notifying Facilities and/or Purchasing departments when regular or unplanned machine maintenance is required. They must be familiar with vertical machining centers and shall be the first line troubleshooter if there is an issue with a part or machine. They must be able to run Haas machines themselves, and programming experience is preferred.

  • Manages employees who perform work on the vertical CNC machine center.
  • Develops and maintains static plans (work instructions), and trains employees to them. Ensures adherence to them during daily operations.
  • Manages the HAAS machine shop employees to ensure they properly machine the titanium wall using the vertical machining center. This includes understanding tool probing and offsets, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, compensation, calculating requirements using basic math (algebra and trigonometry); and proving part programs.
  • Troubleshoots machining issues and cutting tool issues, and leads the team through more complicated tool changes. Identifies potential new tools that could be used to improve the process or reduce costs.
  • Instructs and trains operators on safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Manages maintenance of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Acquires resources, provides technical management of suppliers, and leads process improvements.
  • Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products, and processes.
  • Optimize and improve programs through continual analysis of sub-routines. Make changes to program or coordinate with programming support to do so.


GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS - Education, Knowledge, and Experience

Education:
  • A High School Diploma is desired.
  • Trade/Technical School is desired.


Experience:
  • 10 years of experience required with Vertical Machine Centers.


Skills:
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under rush delivery situations.
  • Accurately read and interpret work instructions.
  • Leading teams


Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • 2 years of Managerial Experience
  • CNC Programming Experience (Mastercam preferred)
