Full Job Description

Role and Scope of Position:
Eversource Energy (Eversource) owns and operates the Hopkinton LNG Facility located in Hopkinton, MA (Facility). The Facility consists of three 1 BCF LNG storage tanks, a 240 MMSCFD vaporization system, a new state-of-the-art liquefaction and pretreatment system capable of liquefying up to 21 MMSCFD.

The Yard Operator 2 will ensure the Facility is safely, reliably and efficiently operated during liquefaction and vaporization seasons by performing the day-to-day operation functions of the Facility.

The LNG Yard Operator 2 will perform operations under the supervision of the LNG Yard Operator 1 or LNG Shift Supervisor. The LNG Yard Operator 2 will train and complete basic LNG operations training within their first 6 months of hire, and the LNG Yard Operator 1 curriculum within 36 months of hire to be able to perform the duties of LNG Yard Operator 1. These duties include but are not limited to: LNG vaporization, idle (boil off), truck loading/loading, and duties as assigned.

Essential Functions: 

  • Support all Eversource Safety and Environmental initiatives.

  • Execute directives from LNG supervision.

  • Assist with the operation of LNG storage boil off management, truck loading/offloading, and vaporization operations, as directed

  • Understand and follow operational procedures.

  • Assist with plant startup and shutdowns.

  • Complete necessary training for operations staff, within defined periods.

  • Communicate and support plant supervision, coworkers, maintenance department, engineering departments, and outside contractors, as required.

  • Ensure Eversource corporate requirements and policies are followed.

  • Operates the LNG plant in compliance with the Code of Federal Regulations.

  • Must be able to work rotating shift work schedule subject to changes according to Plant operating demands.

  • Develop familiarity with regulatory compliance for Federal Energy Regulatory, Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities, and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection inspections.

  • Assist in abnormal requests/repairs or emergency response after hours on an as-needed basis.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Effective communication with different groups, including operations staff, maintenance staff, engineering departments, human resources, federal, state, and local regulators, external stakeholders, and other Eversource corporate groups.

  • Keep accurate equipment logs and records.

  • Ability to successfully complete all company sponsored training programs.

  • Ability to learn, understand and implement operational procedures.

  • Ability to learn, understand and manage process control systems.

Education:                              

  • Ideal candidates should possess a (1) Bachelor or Associate degree in engineering or relevant technical discipline or (2) equivalent work experience.

Experience:

  • Ideal candidates should have at least 1 to 2 years of experience mechanical equipment operation (i.e. compressors, pumps, instrumentation systems, control systems, etc.)

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid Massachusetts DOT Medical Certificate.

  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid Massachusetts Hoisting License with a minimum 3A endorsement. Additional endorsements are a plus.

Working Conditions:

  • Working conditions will include operational requirements in a plant office/control room environment and routine work outdoors (may be required during periods of inclement weather) during implementation of operational and/or maintenance procedures. 

  • This position has mandatory 12hour rotating shift work that includes: nights, weekends, and Holidays.

  • This position is categorized as safety-sensitive for the purpose of drug testing. Successful applicants shall be subject to a pre-assignment drug test if the individual is currently in a non-safety sensitive position. As an employee in this position the individual shall be subject to random drug testing. A positive drug test will result in disciplinary action.

Problem Solving & Complexity:

  • Yard Operator 2 is expected to have basic knowledge of mechanical functions and the ability to quickly learn LNG Facility operations to ensure the Facility is operating within the design parameters.  Yard Operator 2 shall be able to identify issues and support Yard Operator 1,  Shift Supervisor, and Maintenance and Operation Supervisors to develop solutions. 

Physical Aspects: 

  • Yard Operator 2 will be expected to be in good physical condition and able to climb platforms, staircases, and other physical obstacles necessary to safely navigate the Facility.

  • The LNG Yard Operator 2 must be physically able to perform the required duties which include but are not limited to: climb ladders, platforms, staircases, and other physical obstacles including the LNG storage tank (Over 120 feet high) necessary to safely navigate the Facility; work in elevated and confined spaces; lifting; assist with general plant maintenance; and perform snow removal and other work in inclement weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.  Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
