Your New Role...


The Lighting Director will function as the lead for the lighting department on assigned productions. This position will work closely with the Lighting Designer, Production Director, Producer, Video Engineers (V1) and Electricians to achieve the desired “look” from a production lighting perspective in the studio or on location. The Lighting Director will be responsible for all show light planning, programming, and operation of the lighting system. The position will also be responsible for managing and maintaining the lighting inventory for their assigned productions.

Your Role Accountabilities...

Live/Taped Productions

  • Partners directly with the Production and Operations’ teams along with Directors, Producers, Engineers, Production Crew and Electricians to prepare lighting needs for assigned live studio and/or remote productions.

  • Identify and Spec prepare the correct lighting equipment needed to create the optimal “show look” for each production.

  • During the live/taped production of the show, actively monitor the show lighting plus instruct, manage, and supervise all lighting show staff to ensure a successful show.

  • Maintaining compliance with safety regulations, including OSHA and ETCP guidelines.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Proactively provides creative ideas/enhancements to improve the overall quality of show production and collaborates with team members to troubleshoot any existing lighting-related issues.

  • Assists to ensure our inventory is maintained, accounted for, and stored when not in use, along with any other lighting needs.

  • Collaborates with Production Management and Technical Operations to identify and special order any equipment needed for studio productions.

  • Collaborating with the Lighting Designer to install and direct the overall lighting design and vision for the show.

  • Provide constructive feedback and guidance to team members to help improve their performance.

Planning

  • Create and maintain Vectorworks/CAD based lighting plots for all live productions at Techwood Studios to ensure accurate setup of lighting equipment.

  • Overseeing the management and maintenance of lighting equipment is crucial to ensure that all lights are in optimal working condition, properly stored and readily available for show use.

  • Consult with Production and Production Operations on Capital Expenditures and rentals, including testing/evaluation new equipment.

  • Keeping current with the advancements in lighting technologies, trends, and equipment necessary to enhance our Productions and maintain industry standard.

  • Provide training and mentorship to crew members, helping to enhance their skills and knowledge in lighting techniques and equipment operation.

Qualifications & Experiences...

  • 6-8+ years of network level broadcast production experience leading teams to execute the lighting of studio and remote (on location) productions

  • In-depth knowledge of current industry standards

  • Comprehensive understanding of the GrandMA & ETC control systems, including completion of in-person MA user training and advanced user training

  • Extensive knowledge of lighting techniques and equipment, with the ability to use a range of fixtures tailored for broadcast production. (i.e., moving lights, LED fixtures, media servers and special effects lighting)

  • In-depth knowledge of AC power systems including power distribution and load balancing

  • Expertise with the use of intelligent lighting fixtures and control system networking for entertainment technology

  • Able to design and plan the lighting schemes in alignment with Production’s creative vision

  • Proficient in creating CAD based lighting designs and lighting plots for consistent reproduction of desired visual image

  • Must have strong leadership skills as well as excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner

  • Must take ownership and accountability for assigned productions

  • Good computer skills, a logical approach and creative eye

  • Must be able to handle the pressures of live programming and limited time constraints

  • Able to work flexible, non-traditional hours including weekends and holidays

  • Available to travel as required

Not Required but preferred experience:

  • Knowledgeable of new technologies available or on the horizon

  • OSHA 10, OSHA 30 or ETCP certification “preferred”
