POSITION OVERVIEWThe Full-Time Librarian supports teaching, learning, and student success through library instruction, research assistance, collection development, and outreach. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students, the librarian helps foster information literacy, promotes equitable access to resources, and contributes to the development of innovative library services and programs that serve the college community.
Key responsibilities include:- Teaching students information literacy through course-integrated instruction sessions and at the reference desk
- Delivering reference instruction to students, faculty, and staff
- Providing training and instructional support to faculty, staff, and students
- Maintaining the library's interface with online courses and supporting online learning
- Participating in collection development for both electronic and print resources
- Developing, maintaining, and organizing electronic information resources across the Library
- Ensuring compliance with federal regulations, Title 5 requirements, and College of Marin standards related to access to information

ONLINE INSTRUCTIONAll faculty members must be available to provide instruction in the classroom (in person). Please note that the College does
not offer online-only teaching assignments.
Essential FunctionsProvide instruction in the use of information resources and the development of information competency skills:- Prepare and present general and subject-specific course integrated library instruction, including the use of the databases, web resources, and the online catalog.
- Teach library/information competency skills workshops or courses
- Assess and utilize appropriate technologies for delivering instruction to on-campus, remote and online students.
- Teach library skills/research and information competency courses
- Collaborate with other college faculty in developing information competency components within their disciplines.
Facilitate electronic access of library resources and services to students, faculty and staff.- Act as the primary liaison to the Information Technology (IT) Department in order to coordinate the maintenance, troubleshooting and upgrades for the integrated library system, and other library computers and peripherals.
- Instruct library staff, faculty, and students as needed, in the use and operation of a variety of library resources such as databases and the integrated library system.
- Contribute to the maintenance of and organization of the Library's online resources, including LibGuides.
- Assess and utilize appropriate technologies for delivering library services to on-campus, remote and online students.
- Maintain the library's online resources, which may include eBooks, and research databases.
- Ensure that access to library resources and services are ADA compliant.
- Develop a system of ongoing training to support librarians' online presence in all web-based courses.
- Act as liaison with other libraries and consortia for the purpose of enhancing resources available to COM students, faculty and staff.
Collection Development:- Assist in the selection, acquisition, and de-selection of all library materials in order to maintain and enhance the library collection;
- Actively promote the use of library resources and services by assisting faculty in identifying, locating, acquiring, offering, and using library resources and services to support classroom instruction;
- Be an effective liaison to faculty in assigned departments/programs.
Reference:- Provide research/reference assistance to students, faculty and staff.
- Serve regularly scheduled reference hours, including evenings and possibly weekends.
Other Duties:- Advise, assist and evaluate student performance and learning outcomes;
- Contribute to development of program policies and procedures;
- Participate in professional evaluations, departmental and college professional committees and activities;
- Maintain currency and knowledge in assigned area of responsibility;
- Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.

Requirements & DesirablesREQUIREMENTS- A Master's degree in Library Science, or Library and Information Science; or
- The equivalent*; and
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the campus community.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- At least three years professional library experience, preferably in a college or university library.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with a variety of instructional methods for teaching college students information competency skills.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (Desirable Attributes & Skills)- Understanding equity as the recognition of historical and systemic disparities in opportunity and outcomes and providing the resources necessary to address those disparities.
- Understanding of contemporary equity and diversity concepts and issues in a community college setting.
- Demonstrated successful reference/public service experience in a community college/academic or public library environment, serving patrons of diverse backgrounds and needs.
- Demonstrated experience in applying technology solutions to the delivery of information in library environments.
- Demonstrated familiarity with creating and delivering information over a variety of computer platforms, client/server protocols and integrated library systems.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining and updating library website, LibGuides, Canvas (or other learning management system), and intranet resource repositories, such as SharePoint.
- Demonstrated experience with learning management systems.
- Knowledge and demonstrated effective experience with current and emerging digital library technologies, and print resources required to meet the informational and educational needs of a very diverse clientele.
- Demonstrated ability to create online library materials using resources such as Wikis, web software, html, CGI, course management software and other web development tools.
- Demonstrated experience working with MARINet or other library consortia.
- Ability to assist students, faculty, and staff in the use of computer, audiovisual, and multimedia software, mobile devices and equipment for research purposes.
- Experience or training in planning and implementing outreach and distance learning programs;
- Demonstrated ability to use an integrated library system (such as Sierra) to extract bibliographies, produce statistics, or generate reports.
- Ability to teach research skills, using print and electronic resources, including the Internet.
- Ability to establish effective and collaborative working relationships with colleagues, students, faculty and staff.
- Demonstrated experience or training in supervision, administration, or other leadership skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.

- California Education Code, Section 87408.6 requires persons employed by a community college in an academic or classified position to submit to a TB risk assessment developed by CDPH and CTCA and, if risk factors are present, an examination to determine that he or she is free of infectious TB; initially upon hire and every four years thereafter.
- Certificated candidates who have not previously been employed in an academic position in California will be required to provide a medical certificate from a licensed physician showing that the candidate is free from any communicable disease unfitting the candidate to instruct or associate with students.
