We are seeking an experienced, solution-oriented attorney who is comfortable advising on the legal, regulatory, and practical implications of AI and emerging technologies across the enterprise. This attorney will participate in related transactions and contracting, collaborate with Mayo Clinic business, clinical, and technology partners and leaders to address challenging governance and compliance issues, and take ownership of a broad range of matters from inception to conclusion.

Core job responsibilities for this role will include:
  • Providing legal counsel on the governance, development, and deployment of AI and machine learning technologies used across Mayo Clinic's clinical, research, and business operations, including advising on responsible AI governance frameworks, data and privacy implications, and emerging state, federal, and international AI-related laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Advising on and participating in AI-related transactions and contracting, including providing legal guidance on technology and data transactions in support of Mayo Clinic's strategic initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex, highly regulated environments and effectively advise at the intersection of business, technology, compliance, risk, government relations, and legal considerations across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Retention and management of outside counsel.

We are looking for a proactive, solution-oriented attorney who is comfortable leading and working within teams of attorneys and paraprofessionals, with a demonstrated commitment to developing and empowering others. This position requires a collaborative and approachable leader who will coordinate across the Legal Department to deliver exceptional legal services and clear, concise counsel on complex questions throughout the lifecycle of AI and other technology initiatives.

This is a hybrid position with negotiable remote work frequency. Incumbent must live within 100 miles of a Mayo Clinic campus in Phoenix/Scottsdale, AZ; Jacksonville, FL; Rochester, MN; or Eau Claire, WI. Periodic travel to other Mayo sites may be required.

A strong academic background, as well as excellent communication and writing skills, are required. Candidates must have the ability to manage multiple client relationships and understand and help meet their clients' needs and business goals. Candidates should have sound legal project management skills, the ability to effectively lead teams, serve as a positive change agent, and delegate work in a fast paced, team-based environment within a dynamic organization.

Resumes must be submitted online with a cover letter.

This position requires a license to practice law in Arizona, Florida, Minnesota, or Wisconsin.
