As a Lead Software Engineer within the Chief Digital Office (CDO) Consumer Engineering team, you will drive the architectural direction, engineering excellence, and end-to-end delivery of scalable, secure, and highly available enterprise software solutions. You will provide technical leadership across engineering teams, champion modern cloud-native engineering practices, and build digital software platforms that directly improve consumer health experiences. In this role, you will partner closely with product managers, enterprise architects, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into reliable, high-performing applications while leveraging automation and enterprise-approved AI tools to drive continuous innovation.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:- Lead the design, development, implementation, and support of scalable, secure, and highly available enterprise software solutions
- Provide technical leadership and architectural direction across multiple applications, platforms, and engineering teams
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions and delivery plans
- Drive end-to-end ownership of software delivery, including solution design, coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support
- Establish and enforce engineering standards, best practices, coding guidelines, and software quality controls
- Lead code reviews, design reviews, and technical decision-making processes to ensure maintainable and high-performing solutions
- Mentor and coach software engineers, fostering technical growth, innovation, and engineering excellence
- Design and implement cloud-native, API-driven, and microservices-based solutions utilizing modern engineering patterns
- Identify and resolve complex technical challenges, performance bottlenecks, and production issues
- Drive DevSecOps, CI/CD, automation, observability, and operational excellence initiatives
- Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure successful delivery of strategic business and technology objectives
- Ensure compliance with enterprise security, privacy, governance, and regulatory requirements
- Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions to address complex business challenges with an emphasis on the responsible use of AI
- Leverage enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline software engineering workflows, automate tasks, and drive continuous improvement
- Evaluate emerging technology trends and AI capabilities to inform solution design and strategic innovation

Required Qualifications:- 8+ years of software engineering experience developing and supporting enterprise applications
- 5+ years of experience with modern programming languages such as Java, Python, C#, JavaScript, or similar technologies
- 5+ years of experience designing and implementing distributed systems, microservices, REST APIs, and event-driven architectures
- 5+ years of expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- 5+ years of experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
- 5+ years of understanding of software design patterns, scalability, resiliency, performance optimization, and system reliability
- 5+ years of experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, DevOps, and infrastructure automation practices
- 3+ years of technical leadership experience leading engineering teams, projects, or major technology initiatives
- 1+ years of hands-on experience with prompt engineering experience using frontier LLM models
Preferred Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, or related technical certifications
- Experience with healthcare technology, healthcare data, FHIR, interoperability, or regulated environments
- Experience building enterprise platforms supporting high-volume, mission-critical workloads Demonstrated solid analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Experience with observability, monitoring, logging, and site reliability engineering practices
- Experience mentoring engineers and building high-performing engineering teams
- Experience driving platform transformation, modernization, and engineering productivity initiatives
- Knowledge of AI/ML, data engineering, analytics, or cloud modernization initiatives
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical initiatives from concept through production deployment

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $112,700 - $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
