Job Description:


The Lead, Mechanical Engineer is responsible for participating in the design of detail parts, assemblies, and installations for aircraft structures, mission equipment installations, and mechanical systems installations. Engineer applies basic engineering design and/or analytical theory with understanding of structural analysis for application to integrated system design.

Essential Functions:
  • Research, development of layouts, preparation of engineering drawings, and coordination of design activities with Tooling, Flight Sciences, Manufacturing, and Production to ensure that designs meet requirements at minimum cost.
  • Designs will be accomplished using world-class, three-dimensional solid modeling CAD tools and work will be accomplished with senior-level design engineers.
  • Mechanical design engineers can work on a wide variety of tasks and aircraft systems on various aircraft platforms.
  • Responsible for providing guidance, coaching and training to other employees.
  • Oversee the design of detail parts, assemblies, and installations for aircraft structures, mission equipment installations, and mechanical systems installations.
  • Ensure proposals are vetted for accuracy in cost, scope, and schedule.
  • Drive successful program executing by ensuring initiatives are completed on time, within budget, and in full compliance with all processes, procedures, and program requirements.
  • Provide input into new products, processes, standards and/or operational plans that will have measurable impact on the achievement of overall function or business results.
  • Ensure program airworthiness, customer, and company requirements are understood and met.
  • Manage and work in an environment that is fast paced, demanding, with a focus on problem resolution and process improvement.
  • Influence a wide range of audience and having demonstrated leadership skills to win support without direct reporting structure.
  • Running total lifecycle of programs including proposals, bids, planning, assessing/managing risk, and execution.
  • Understanding of aircraft systems, and various mission systems.
  • Lead experience on large prototype programs.
  • Outstanding communication (both verbally and written), negotiation, collaboration, time management, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with FAA (Part 23 and 25) and military aircraft airworthiness design approach, certification process, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of manpower planning, milestone scheduling, and related financial management.
  • Formulate strategic vision, define implementation plan of action to achieve success.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret with SCI security clearance.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
