Description

The Santa Clarita Community College District/College of the Canyons is seeking a full-time Lead Information Technology Coordinator in the Business Services and Information Technology division.

Salary placement will be on Range 50 of Classified Salary Schedule B. Initial salary step placement for new employees is customarily at step 1, 2, or 3 ($7,627.00 / $8,092.00 / $8,562.00 per month) of this 20-step salary range.

Probationary period for new Classified Represented employees is six months. Work year is 12 calendar months. The normal workweek for this position is 40 hours. Paid holiday, discretionary, and sick time are provided. Ten vacation days accrue during the first year of employment. A regular work schedule will be assigned, with the ability to occasionally work a flexible schedule as needed with supervisor approval.

Position Description:
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Director, Technology Services, provides user support to assist information technology end-users; assures that information technology needs of district staff are met in a professional and timely manner; performs evaluation and testing of application programs, computer and audio/visual hardware prior to installation; provides training to hourly staff and small groups of college employees; assists in the maintenance of network accounts and system resources; performs a variety of skilled and technical duties related to the installation, configuration, maintenance and repair of software, computers, audio/visual components, peripheral equipment, and telecommunications equipment; performs other related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Provides leadership within the department and coordinates projects and other assignments requiring a high level of responsibility and independence. Provides expertise and support for major IT projects and systems impacting multiple departments.
  2. Performs duties to ensure proper operation and security of the computer systems, network equipment and servers to provide technology resources for District faculty, staff and students.
  3. Performs advanced project management tasks such as plan, manage, organize, and schedule project timelines, resource allocation, oversee and document all aspects of large scale projects that impacts both CCC and VLC.
  4. Participates in the planning, administration and maintenance of technical functions and matters related to multi-vendor equipment and software.
  5. Installs and maintains a variety of equipment including computers, laptops, printers, scanners and other peripherals.
  6. Performs user help desk functions and operations; use a record-keeping system to log requests and track resolution of problems.
  7. Plans and coordinates various workshops and training sessions related to the use of District computer and audio/visual technology to employees over the phone, at their work location and in one-on-one, small group and classroom training environments.
  8. Assists and coordinates the checkout of equipment to District faculty and staff.
  9. Recommends the purchase of new and replacement equipment. Requisitions, orders and stores spare and replacement parts. Schedules repairs and completes related paperwork for warranty claims as necessary.
  10. Performs scheduled maintenance and repairs of computer and audio/visual equipment; troubleshoots and repairs computers, peripherals, audio/visual equipment and software applications.
  11. Installs, configures, updates and maintains a variety of computer and audio/visual equipment including projectors, computers, printers, scanners, televisions and other peripherals.
  12. Operates testing and measurement devices, computer diagnostic software and other specialized instruments used in the repair and maintenance of computer equipment, audio/visual equipment and related peripherals.
  13. Consults with various departments to determine current and future technical needs; works with faculty and staff on acquiring equipment for evaluations and purchase.
  14. Provides assistance to students, faculty and staff on utilizing computer and software programs including remote access and the proper use of audio-visual equipment in conjunction with computers and peripherals.
  15. Assists in the maintenance of user accounts on the system.
  16. Works in a team environment with other members of the Information Technology staff to maintain the district's network infrastructure and support users in departments and offices throughout the district.
  17. Maintains a current and accurate inventory of computer hardware, software, audio/visual equipment and licenses owned or leased by the district.
  18. Prepares instructions on the installation and use of district supported hardware and application programs.
  19. Connects computers and peripherals to the campus network (both wired and wireless) including cabling when necessary, network protocol configuration and NIC installation.
  20. Tests software performance prior to releasing new applications for desktop and network use.
  21. Maintains end-user Operating Systems and application programs on PC and Macintosh desktop environments to ensure proper operation.
  22. Provides direction to part-time employees and assists in the training of employees in the lower technician classifications.
  23. Drives to various locations to setup and modify new and existing audio visual equipment.
  24. Attends meetings as assigned.
  25. Performs other duties as assigned.

Demonstrated Knowledge and Abilities

Position requires the knowledge of:
  • A wide variety of equipment used in audio visual support services.
  • Computerized and electronic equipment including computers, peripherals, audio/visual units and other related office equipment.
  • Principles of training and basic instruction reinforcement techniques for providing direction in the use of computers, software and Audio Visual equipment.
  • Both PC and Macintosh desktop environments and operating systems.
  • Working knowledge of commercial software packages and operating systems including but not limited to the Microsoft Windows current and previous operating systems, Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Outlook, Photoshop, Acrobat reader and Mac OS.
  • Computer hardware peripherals including but not limited to scanners, digital cameras, and printers.
  • Computer networking equipment, testing devices and cabling standards.
  • Information systems technology and terms including recent developments in networking and computer technology.
  • Methods and procedures used in the maintenance and repair of electronics systems and instruments.
  • Oral and written communication skills.

Qualifications and Minimum Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Experience
Five (5) years increasingly-responsible experience providing technical user support services and/or maintaining, supporting and repairing computers, software applications, audio/visual equipment and telecommunications equipment.

Education
Education equivalent to a Bachelor's degree (120 units) from an accredited institution or any combination equivalent to four years of college, trade school or training program coursework in computer science, electronics, information systems, computer networking or a related field. Short-term workshops will not be accepted as fulfilling any part of the education requirement. Two additional years of experience in addition to that identified above may be substituted for each year (30 units) of the educational requirement.

Desirable Qualification:
  • Experience in a lead position.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Position requires sitting and viewing a computer monitor for extended periods of time plus frequent periods of standing and walking, which may include climbing staircases; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and related equipment; stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting/turning, crawling, and reaching in awkward positions to install and repair equipment; bending at the waist; carrying and stacking objects up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally; frequently exert 10 to 20 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects; handling and working with various materials and objects; hearing and speaking to communicate and provide information to others; vision to read printed material and computer monitor; may be exposed to occasional contact with dissatisfied individuals; and travel from site-to-site.
