We are seeking a
Lead Project Cost Estimator to support one of the nation's largest school construction programs. (Large Educational & Public Works Projects LAUSD) This leadership role is responsible for overseeing a team of estimators while providing expert cost estimating, change order analysis, claims review, budget development, and construction cost consulting services for large-scale educational facility projects. The successful candidate will play a critical role in establishing project budgets, supporting negotiations, and ensuring cost accountability throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of construction estimators
- Prepare and review conceptual, schematic, design development, and detailed construction cost estimates
- Develop independent cost estimates to support project budgeting and negotiations
- Review contractor proposals, change orders, claims, and cost breakdowns
- Evaluate estimates prepared by architects, engineers, and contractors
- Assist project teams with pricing negotiations and cost analysis
- Prepare change order estimates and claim evaluations
- Establish and maintain project budgets and cost controls
- Analyze construction market conditions, labor costs, and material pricing
- Support public bidding processes and construction procurement activities
- Participate in meetings, workshops, and presentations with project stakeholders
Requirements- Extensive experience preparing complete construction cost estimates for large and complex building construction projects
- Minimum 14 years of professional construction cost estimating experience, or equivalent senior-level estimating experience
- Previous experience supervising or leading estimating teams
- Minimum 5 years of experience working for a construction cost consulting firm
- Strong experience developing conceptual, pre-construction, and detailed estimates
- Extensive experience evaluating change orders, contractor proposals, and construction claims
- Knowledge of current California construction labor and material costs
- Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field
- Experience supporting K-12, higher education, public sector, healthcare, or institutional construction projects
- Experience with large capital improvement, modernization, or ground-up building programs
