proven, hands-on Lead Cloud Engineer to take ownership of our mission-critical Azure Government Cloud (GovCloud) environments. This individual will lead the Cloud Operations team in ensuring
IL5/IL6 compliance,
secure infrastructure,
resilient disaster recovery, and
scalable automation across production, development, and test environments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:- Lead the design, implementation, and governance of Azure GovCloud environments to ensure IL5/IL6 compliance across all systems and workloads.
- Own and enforce cloud security posture using Microsoft Defender for Cloud, ACAS, STIG scanning, and continuous compliance monitoring to maintain federal security standards.
- Architect and manage disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity (BCP) strategies across all environments (NIPR/SIPR), including regular testing and validation of recovery objectives.
- Manage the infrastructure team's DevOps project board and story-boards, while mentoring and coaching Cloud Engineers and support staff. Provide weekly infrastructure briefs to the Information Owner and other stakeholders to keep them informed of status and trends.
- Own the SLA for all managed applications, driving incident response and root-cause analysis. Oversee patching, vulnerability mitigation, and monitoring across NIPR/SIPR environments. Optimize cost and performance using Azure Cost Management, Advisor, and Policy.
- Lead the IaC strategy using Terraform, ARM templates, and Azure CLI. Own Azure DevOps pipelines, GitLab integration, and CI/CD best practices, while driving automation of secure data transfers between NIPR and SIPR storage.
- Liaise with government stakeholders, auditors, and vendors, translating technical requirements into business-friendly language to ensure clear communication and alignment.
REQUIRED SKILLS:- 8+ years of hands-on experience in Azure cloud operations, with 5+ years in Azure GovCloud (IL5/IL6).
- Bachelor's or higher in Engineering, Science, or IT.
- CompTIA Security+ certification
- Deep knowledge of IL5/IL6, STIG, ACAS, and FISMA compliance.
- Experience with Azure Defender, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, and vulnerability management.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
PREFERRED SKILLS:- Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Security Engineer Associate, CISSP, or equivalent certification.
- Knowledge of ITIL, data governance, and federated data standards.
- Background in architecture frameworks and metadata management.
