Position Summary

The Lab Manager is responsible for leading day-to-day lab operations, safety coordination, compliance execution, equipment readiness, and lab space management for engineering lab environments. This role serves as the primary point of contact for lab safety concerns, operational escalations, equipment and PPE readiness, inspection tracking, lab access requirements, and cross-functional coordination with Engineering, Facilities, EHS, vendors, and lab users.

The Lab Manager ensures lab activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with corporate, site-specific, and EHS requirements. The role requires strong operational ownership, communication, documentation discipline, and the ability to manage multiple safety and lab support programs simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Communication & Escalation
  • Serve as the primary conduit for safety-related information and communication within the engineering lab organization.
  • Act as the central point of contact for lab safety concerns, incidents, and escalations.
  • Provide first-level coordination for site safety issues impacting lab operations.
  • Represent the lab organization in Safety Operational Learning meetings.
  • Communicate safety expectations, lessons learned, and corrective actions to lab users and stakeholders.

Pre-Task Planning / Project Work Plan Program Support
  • Serve as the local point of contact for the PTP/PWP program within the engineering lab environment.
  • Drive local program compliance and quality execution of PTP/PWP requirements.
  • Ensure appropriate PWP documentation is completed for high-risk, non-routine, mandated tasks, and activities involving defeated or bypassed interlocks or machine guarding.
Training & Lab Access
  • Support hands-on training, knowledge transfer, and task-specific instruction for engineering lab personnel.
  • Conduct or coordinate recertification, OJT, and required lab-specific training.
  • Establish and monitor training requirements for lab access.
  • Support certification ownership and tracking for required programs and qualifications.

PPE, Safety Equipment & Inspection Oversight
  • Ensure required PPE is available, ready for use, and properly utilized by lab personnel.
  • Maintain oversight of LOTO kits, SCBA gear, eye protection, face protection, hearing protection, and other required safety equipment.
  • Schedule and track inspections, testing, and recertifications for safety and monitoring equipment, including SPM Flex monitors, DOD CLPx units, and Ludlum radiation meters.
  • Maintain records related to service, inspection, calibration, and compliance readiness.

EHS & Compliance Support
  • Support managers and technicians in sourcing EHS-required equipment.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with evolving safety requirements.
  • Review, approve, and manage documentation and approvals related to Conditional Use, Management of Change, PTP/PWP documentation, Citrix approvals, lab training requirements, lab access, and Gensuite inspections.
  • Ensure approvals meet corporate, site-specific, and EHS requirements.

Lab Space Ownership & Operational Coordination
  • Serve as the point of contact for all activities impacting lab space, including facility shutdowns, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and machine laydowns.
  • Coordinate machine laydown activities with Facilities, Engineering, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure lab space readiness, compliance, and safe execution of work activities.
  • Drive 6S and cleanroom discipline by ensuring lab areas adhere to required standards.
  • Communicate expectations and drive corrective actions where gaps exist.
  • Ensure cleanroom gowning and PRA requirements are clearly communicated, understood, and followed.

Shared Lab Equipment & Program Ownership
  • Maintain oversight of shared lab equipment, including fall protection equipment, LOTO equipment, yellow bags, ladders, and other common-use lab resources.
  • Serve as program owner or element owner for assigned programs such as fall protection, LOTO, fume hood audits, and exhaust audits. ]

Required Qualifications
  • Experience managing technical, engineering, manufacturing, semiconductor, cleanroom, or industrial lab environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of lab safety practices, EHS requirements, PPE programs, inspection readiness, and operational compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate across Engineering, Facilities, EHS, vendors, technicians, and management stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting or managing safety documentation, training requirements, corrective actions, and audit readiness.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple programs, inventories, inspections, and operational priorities.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with lab users, technicians, managers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with cleanroom operations, 6S programs, tool laydowns, lab access controls, and hazardous gas management.
  • Familiarity with LOTO, fall protection, SCBA, gas detection equipment, fume hood/exhaust audits, and inspection tracking.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships, purchase orders, consumable ordering, and equipment refurbishment workflows.
  • Background in semiconductor, vacuum, gas delivery, abatement, or advanced manufacturing lab environments.

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
