Full Job Description
About the Position:

The IT Product Owner is responsible for maximizing the business value of technology solutions within the merchandising and retail operations domain by owning the product vision, roadmap, and backlog, and serving as the single point of accountability for prioritization and value realization. This role partners closely with merchandising, pricing, supply chain, and store operations teams to translate business strategies into scalable, data-driven solutions, while acting as a domain subject-matter expert to ensure systems and processes drive sales, margin optimization, inventory productivity, and enhanced customer experience.

Success in this role will be measured by the consistent delivery of meaningful business value, such as sales growth, margin improvement, and pricing accuracy. This includes maintaining strong stakeholder satisfaction and alignment across merchandising and IT partners, ensuring backlogs and requirements are clear, well-defined, and delivery-ready. The role is also evaluated on predictability and timeliness of delivery, as well as the adoption, usability, and overall effectiveness of solutions once implemented.

What You'll Do:

  • Define and manage the product vision, roadmap, and backlog aligned to merchandising and business strategy.
  • Prioritize work to drive key outcomes such as pricing accuracy, promotions execution, assortment optimization, and margin improvement.
  • Elicit, analyze, and document business requirements; translate them into clear user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Serve as the merchandising domain expert across systems supporting item management, pricing, promotions, and inventory.
  • Partner with merchandising, operations, and IT teams to align solutions with business needs and strategies.
  • Lead backlog refinement, support sprint planning, and accept completed work based on defined criteria.
  • Collaborate on release planning, dependencies, and risk management with delivery teams.
  • Validate solutions to ensure they meet business requirements and deliver expected value.
  • Facilitate stakeholder communication, workshops, and alignment across cross-functional teams.
  • Use data and performance metrics to inform decisions and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

At a minimum, what you'll need:

  • 5+ years of experience in Product Owner, Business Analyst, Business Systems, or IT Delivery roles.
  • Strong experience in requirements elicitation, process mapping, and translating business needs into technical solutions.
  • Proven experience working in Agile / Scrum environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with business and technical teams.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience in retail, grocery, or multi-location environments with a strong emphasis on merchandising.
  • Hands-on experience with merchandising systems (pricing, promotions, item management, assortment planning).
  • Product Owner or Agile certification (CSPO, SAFe PO/PM) and/or Business Analysis certification (CBAP, CCBA).
  • Familiarity with SaaS platforms, system integrations, and data-driven products.
  • Experience working with POS, ERP, supply chain, or pricing optimization tools.
