Full Job Description
About the Role

In this role, you'll lead the small but mighty IT team that keeps Float running, and you'll own the systems and support that every Float team relies on to do their best work. You will manage, coach and grow a team of IT engineers, set the standard for how we deliver support, and own the IT roadmap for the next 12 to 18 months, including pushing forward our automation goals.

You will be accountable for employee onboarding, offboarding, endpoint support, access and authorization, productivity platforms and the day-to-day health of our office technology. This team does not own infrastructure or security, so you'll succeed by partnering closely with the teams that do: Security for endpoint, physical and SaaS security; Corporate Engineering for AI and AI enablement; People Operations for onboarding and offboarding; and Office Management for events and other office work.

You act in the now but plan for the future, and you'll be the person who decides where our IT platform needs to go and drives that change.

What You'll Do
  • Lead, coach and grow a team of IT engineers, owning hiring, onboarding, day-to-day direction and the development of everyone on your team.
  • Own the delivery of your team's work, balancing multiple priorities across support, security and infrastructure, and unblocking the team when things get complex or ambiguous.
  • Set and drive the IT roadmap for the next 12 to 18 months, aligning it with Float's automation and business goals.
  • Partner with the Security team on endpoint, physical and SaaS security, making sure the fleet, access and SaaS platforms your team manages meet the standards they set.
  • Partner with Corporate Engineering on AI and AI enablement, and set the expectation that automation is how your team scales.
  • Partner with People Operations to deliver a smooth employee onboarding and offboarding experience, owning the IT side of access and authorization.
  • Partner with Office Management on onsite events, activities and other office-related work, providing the IT support that makes them run.
  • Develop effective support processes for end-points and SaaS platforms alongside your stakeholders.
  • Ensure the team provides excellent onsite and remote IT support to employees across various locations.
  • Oversee the administration and management of Apple MacBook devices, ensuring compliance and performance optimization in line with Security's requirements.
  • Ensure hardware and software issues are troubleshot and resolved quickly, keeping downtime to a minimum.
  • Own our Audio/Video systems consisting of Zoom Rooms, Google Meets and Zoom.
  • Represent IT to leadership, translating the team's work into business impact and influencing where IT can shape Float's vision and strategy.

What You Bring
  • 7+ years of experience in IT support, systems and support administration or a similar role, including experience managing or leading a team.
  • A track record of coaching and developing engineers, setting clear expectations and giving regular, direct feedback.
  • Strong experience with Google Workspace, Okta, and access management tools.
  • Solid troubleshooting skills for software, hardware, and network issues.
  • Experience with development and development languages to support automation efforts.
  • Extensive experience automating IT workflows.
  • Familiarity with security hardening techniques, endpoint auditing, and compliance best practices, and experience partnering with a dedicated security function to meet them.
  • Strong skills in IT administration, Productivity SaaS platforms, MDM and authentication systems.
  • A track record of working cross-functionally with teams like Security, Engineering, People Operations and Office Management to deliver shared outcomes.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize across a team's worth of projects, and provide both proactive and reactive IT support.
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong customer service mindset.

You'll be great in this role if:
  • You're an owner. You love a challenge, and take great satisfaction in tackling them head on. You love being a pioneer and taking on any task (big or small) and driving it through to completion. You are comfortable making independent decisions, and you take accountability for the outcomes of your team, not just your own.
  • You lead people well. You get energy from helping others grow. You set clear expectations, give feedback early and often, and create the conditions for your team to do the best work of their careers.
  • You're able to explain complex problems in simple terms. As you'll be communicating directly with different stakeholders and leadership, your ability to present a solution in an understandable way is vital.
  • You have solid technical skills. Strong skills in IT administration, Productivity SaaS platforms, MDM and authentication systems, and enough depth to guide your team through hard technical calls.
  • You understand the business context. You'll be more effective if you understand how your team supports the business and where you can influence the vision and strategy of Float.
  • You build strong partnerships. This team wins through others. You'll work shoulder to shoulder with Security, Corporate Engineering, People Operations and Office Management, and you know how to align on shared outcomes without needing to own everything yourself.
  • You're comfortable with a fast-paced environment. Float is a dynamic environment and things can change quickly. You should be flexible and able to adapt to changes as they occur, and help your team stay steady through them.
  • You have a strategic mindset. You act in the now but plan for the future. You see where our IT platform needs to go, put a plan in place and proactively drive that change.
  • You can balance attention to detail and strategic thinking. While it's important to delve into the details, it's equally important to keep the big picture in mind.
  • You ruthlessly prioritize. You and your team will have multiple responsibilities and projects. Being able to manage the workload, sequence it well and meet deadlines is crucial.
  • You're eager to continue your own learning. Scrappy and voracious, you want to know the 'why' behind every answer. You love to have healthy debates with fellow engineers and colleagues about the product.

This role won't be a fit if:
  • You're not extremely detail oriented
  • You are not open to a hybrid role
  • You aren't a self-starter and don't like to work independently
  • You don't enjoy managing and developing people
  • You're not comfortable wearing multiple hats
  • You don't like change and adapting to new ways of doing things
  • You aren't comfortable with ambiguity
  • You aren't able to translate technical jargon into simple language
  • You lack patience for iterative work
  • You want detailed to-dos for your tasks and projects
  • You're not keen on learning new things
  • You don't have strong stakeholder management skills
  • You don't like giving or receiving regular feedback on your work

Why You Should Join
  • Work at one of Canada's fastest-growing fintech companies
  • Make a real impact in a high-autonomy, high-growth role
  • Collaborate with an ambitious and supportive team
  • Competitive compensation, equity options, and benefits
  • Hybrid work model - we are based in Toronto with in-office days for connection and collaboration
  • Enjoy catered team lunches every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
  • Bring your pup to our dog-friendly office
  • Thrive in a high-trust, high-performance culture where your work truly matters

In Short

At Float, you'll thrive if you're bold, curious, and eager to make a real impact. We're building something special-and having a lot of fun along the way. If you're excited to build, grow, and win together, we'd love to meet you.
