About the Role

This role is essential for providing comprehensive systems administration and engineering support across our diverse IT environment. You will collaborate with a specialized team to ensure the seamless operation of our infrastructure, contributing to the organization's efficiency and security. Your proactive approach will drive automation, process improvements, and innovative solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform core systems administration and engineering tasks, including upgrades, patching, monitoring, and general health checks.
  • Collaborate with team members on projects while independently managing operational tasks.
  • Support cloud operations through patching and automation using AWS Systems Manager (SSM) and other platforms.
  • Maintain system security by managing patches, updates, and best practices for both cloud and legacy systems.
  • Manage security and compliance basics, including account reconciliation, certificate management, and backup troubleshooting.
  • Monitor and validate backups, producing clear reports on status and recovery readiness.
  • Ensure comprehensive inventory of server hardware and software, tracking system connections and dependencies.
  • Co-manage Proofpoint for email security, including configuration and incident response.
  • Develop and maintain playbooks, procedures, and alert response guides.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, training, or process improvements and implement them.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues from first principles, documenting findings and solutions.
  • Engage with faculty, staff, and IT team members on projects, providing clear technical advice.
  • Document work and share knowledge in team meetings.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent hands-on experience strongly preferred.
  • At least 2 years of relevant IT experience in systems administration or engineering.
