About the role: As an Infrastructure Engineer focused on On-Prem Systems at Lumafield, you will own the system that brings Voyager, our CT data platform, inside the customer's own walls. Defense and air-gapped programs cannot send scan data to the cloud, and production lines running our fastest scanners cannot wait on an upload. Our suite of On-Prem solutions tackle these challenges, providing robust edge compute when customer applications need it.
You will decide what goes in that rack, how fast it runs, what it costs, and how a technician who has never met you can build and test one. This is architecture, prototyping, and production engineering in the same role - the systems you design this quarter get handed to Manufacturing the next.
This is a hands-on, in-person role based in our San Francisco, CA office.
What you'll do:- Design standalone, high-performant On-Prem systems: compute nodes, storage topology, networking, power, and rack layout
- Prototype and profile: benchmark throughput, network bandwidth, and memory contention
- Own the engineering deliverables Manufacturing needs to build these without you: hardware and software BOMs, wiring and rack diagrams, network and IP plans, and provisioning and test work instructions.
- Harden the appliance for the customer's site: encryption, network segmentation and firewall policies, and update mechanisms that survive an air gap.
- Run Kubernetes on fixed capacity - node pools, worker placement, and the storage and database services beneath them
- Partner with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Field Services to move from prototypes to a product we can build repeatedly, and stay on the hook for what comes back from the field.
- Feed on-prem constraints back into our technology roadmap, aligning the next generation of the pipeline with the hardware it will live on.
About you:- 3+ years building and operating physical server infrastructure you can point at. You have racked it, cabled it, sized its power, and successfully debugged issues after deployment
- Experience with Linux server administration, network troubleshooting, docker deployments, productionizing systems
- Experience in configuring Linux systems, applying best practices, and automating workflows with Ansible and scripting.
- Hands-on with bare-metal provisioning: PXE/netboot, cloud-init, golden images, and firmware or BIOS configuration through Redfish or IPMI.
- Real networking depth: VLANs and subnetting, DHCP and DNS, firewall policy, link aggregation
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes on fixed capacity
Bonus:- Production experience with ZFS: pool topology, resilver behavior, and native encryption.
- Experience shipping hardware that leaves the building - manufacturing handoff, ECO processes, or field service of deployed systems.
- Familiarity with NVIDIA GPU compute on ARM platforms (DGX, Jetson, CUDA), or with air-gapped or sensitive data deployments
$125,000 - $150,000 a year
