Summary

You will serve as a IT SPECIALIST (SYSADMIN) in the Communications and Information Systems Directorate of MARITIME OPERATIONS CENTER.

Duties

  • You will provide advanced administration and support for servers and systems supporting the Arsenal Mission Package (AMP) which may include system configuration, data management, user training and troubleshooting.
  • You will administer and maintain a diverse range of operating systems, including Windows, Linux, virtual environments, and associated hardware.
  • You will support requests based on priority, modifying or updating AMP components as needed, and provide expert technical advisement on design, integration, troubleshooting, and repair for AMP and related technologies.
  • You will actively participation and/or lead IT projects focused on system upgrades, migrations, and implementations, along with the automation of routine tasks through scripting languages such as Bash and Python.
  • You will implement and maintain security hardening measures within the AMP and Linux environments, adhering to DoN Cybersecurity requirements (e.g., DISA STIGs, CNSSI 1253) and Intelligence Community Directives (ICDs).
  • You will oversee the effective completion and adherence to periodic Information Assurance (IA) tasks such as password changes on network devices.
  • You will collaborate with AMP system engineers and applicable program offices, Fleet operators, and other IT sections to understand AMP IT requirements and provide timely and effective support.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This is a Cyberspace Workforce position, work role code (System Admin), proficiency level (Intermediate) the incumbent is required to obtain and maintain qualifications in DoDM 8140.03 Cyber Workforce Qualification and Department of Navy policies.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.


Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in the administration, configuration, and troubleshooting of Linux operating systems (such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux). This experience must include implementing system security hardening and compliance measures (e.g., DISA STIGs), and resolving complex server-level issues, and developing technical documentation for system operations.

Your experience must reflect skill in the following areas:

IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Ensuring the rigorous application of information security/ information assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of systems administration services
  2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Providing technical advisement on the design, integration, troubleshooting, and repair of various technologies.
  3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Delivering training in a clear and concise manner on IT issues related to Linux systems.
  4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Resolving hardware/software interface and interoperability problems.
