Code the Skies: Software Engineer for Special Mission C-130s!
Are you ready to write code that directly flies on some of the military's most legendary tactical aircraft? Production A within the 580th Software Engineering Squadron (580 SWES) is seeking talented software professionals to develop and sustain the Operational Flight Programs (OFPs) that power our special-mission C-130 fleet.
In this highly impactful role, you will be at the keyboard of aviation history. You won't just be writing code; you will be designing, refining, and sustaining the "digital brains" of specialized fixed-wing aircraft. Your work will directly ensure that our aircrews have the advanced software capabilities they need to execute their missions safely and successfully.
What You'll Accomplish:
-Develop the Brains of Flight. Design, test, and implement cutting-edge Operational Flight Program (OFP) software. You will be responsible for the high-consequence, real-time code that controls the essential flight and mission systems of the aircraft.
-Sustain a Legendary Fleet. Provide full-lifecycle software sustainment for specialized C-130 aircraft. You will proactively troubleshoot, optimize, and modernize onboard software systems to ensure the fleet remains combat-ready and adaptable to evolving global threats.
-Empower Special Mission Operations. Directly support the unique, high-stakes requirements of our special-mission C-130 platforms. From tactical transport and electronic warfare to special operations, your software solutions will give our aircrews the decisive technological edge in the sky.

Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Obtain & maintain appropriate Security clearance
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
- May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Cyberspace qualification in accordance with DoDM 8140.03
Recruitment Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices for integrating information system components sufficient to plan, coordinate, and administer computer systems, and optimize system performance.
2. Knowledge of the latest advancements in technology to initiate corrective or preventative action to ensure
optimum performance of the system.
3. Knowledge of performance tuning tools, database management, and project management methods sufficient to optimize systems performance, troubleshoot database performance problems, and perform a wide range of systems administration functions.
4. Knowledge of operating systems, associated devices, and the interoperability of systems sufficient to install,
upgrade, troubleshoot, test, and maintain those systems; to optimize the functionality and performance of
systems; and to ensure the availability, integrity, efficiency, and reliability of servers.
5. Ability to apply methods and practices for troubleshooting, recovering, adjusting, modifying, and improving systems to solve complex problems, provide support that minimizes interruptions in service to customers, and maintain liaison with industry and other activities to provide awareness of state-of-the-art technology.
