Full Job Description

Acute Care Hospital Infection Preventionist is responsible for supporting and promoting a comprehensive infection prevention and control program. This role uses epidemiology, surveillance, education, and performance improvement strategies to prevent healthcare-associated infections and promote patient and employee safety.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct infection surveillance using epidemiologic principles, CDC criteria, laboratory data, and applicable surveillance systems.
  • Identify and investigate healthcare-associated infections, outbreaks, clusters, exposures, and emerging infection trends.
  • Analyze and report infection prevention data to organizational leaders, committees, regulatory agencies, and public health officials.
  • Serve as an infection prevention and control resource to physicians, leaders, staff, patients, families, and healthcare partners.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate infection prevention policies, procedures, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Employee Health and other departments to prevent and manage infectious disease exposures.
  • Provide education related to infection prevention and infectious diseases to staff, patients, families, and the community.
  • Participate in infection prevention committees and organizational patient safety initiatives.
  • Maintain knowledge of current infection prevention practices, infectious diseases, epidemiology, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and applicable state and federal regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Science, or a related healthcare field. such as Medical Technologist, or in Public Health/Epidemiology.
  • Experience in infection prevention, epidemiology, surveillance, or healthcare quality improvement.
  • Ability to enter, analyze, and report infection surveillance data, including NHSN data.
  • Ability to enter, analyze, and report infection surveillance data, including NHSN data.

Certification:

  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required within one year of eligibility and maintained through recertification every five years.

Education:

Bachelors Degree (Required), Bachelors Degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing (Required)

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
