What you will do

The HVAC Project Manager is expected to work under minimal supervision to identify and determine the direction of complex chiller projects by managing assigned orders through the order execution, engineering, manufacturing, and startup phases. Working in a team environment, the Project Manager will develop and document the plan, ensure adherence, and manage risk factors identified in each contract. The assigned customer orders will have a high degree of complexity or special circumstances when compared to standard products. The projects must be managed according to strict customer and financial requirements. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of core, extended, and support team members, suppliers, contractors, or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan.

Periodically, the Program Manager will also be tasked with leading change management initiatives for the business. In this function, the Program Manager will be working closely with engineering, manufacturing, and other groups within Johnson Controls to study and implement new business workflows, with the end result being a more streamlined ordering and manufacturing process, both internally and externally to Johnson Controls.

Responsibilities:
  • Define project schedule, scope, goals, resource requirements, and deliverables that support business and customer goals.
  • Determine and assess the need for additional team members or resources and communicate additional needs to leadership when project goals are being affected.
  • Plan, schedule, and track project timelines, deliverables, and milestones using appropriate tools. Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path.
  • Identify and resolve project scope, financial, and schedule impacts related to manufacturing issues.
  • Build, develop and grow business relationships with customers and suppliers vital to the success of Johnson Controls' specially engineered products.
  • Conduct project post-mortems and create a lessons learned report to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
  • Develop best practices and tools for project execution and management.
  • Coach, mentor, motivate, and provide leadership to project team members and influence them to take positive action and accountability.
  • Identify and engage required resources depending on status or project phase.
  • Coordinate and lead a cross-functional project resource team to ensure clear and accurate communication necessary to deliver the project on time and budget.
  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.

What we look for:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering plus one to three years related work experience.
  • Expectation that PMI/PMP (Project Management Institute, Project Management Professional) certification will be obtained within 2 years of employment in the position.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to communicate technical material to a non-technical audience.
  • Strong Personal Computer working capabilities in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project), Adobe Writer, Visio, and basic Windows environment.

Preferred:
  • Minimum of five years of direct project management experience in the Building Construction Industry preferred.
  • Management experience with projects related to Mechanical Retrofits, HVAC controls, BAS management, Fire management, and Security management systems is desired. HVAC is highly preferred.


HIRING SALARY RANGE: $76,100-$104,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
