Full Job Description
The Human Resources Manager serves as a strategic and operational partner to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), supporting the delivery of Human Resources programs and services across the Firm. The position directly supervises and develops the Human Resources Generalist, partners with Leaders on employee relations, talent management, workforce planning, and organizational effectiveness, and helps ensure compliance with applicable employment laws, regulations, and Firm policies. The Human Resources Manager builds strong relationships throughout the Firm and serves as a trusted advisor to Leadership and employees while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, judgment, communication, and confidentiality.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises, mentors, trains, and develops the HR Generalist.
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with department heads, managers, supervisors, and employees, serving as a trusted Human Resources partner while collaborating closely with the CHRO to support departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Conducts recurring meetings with department leadership regarding employee relations, staffing needs, workforce planning, employee engagement, departmental initiatives, and operational challenges.
  • Maintains ongoing communication and meets regularly with the CHRO regarding employee relations matters, departmental feedback, workforce concerns, compliance issues, staffing challenges, organizational developments, and recommended courses of action.
  • Supports the CHRO in employee relations matters, investigations, conflict resolution efforts, corrective action processes, employee separations, and performance-related issues by assisting with fact-finding, documentation review, meeting coordination, recommendations, and follow-up activities.
  • Coaches and advises department heads, managers, supervisors, and the Director of Legal Support Staff regarding employee performance, workplace conduct, accountability, communication, and employee development, and assists leadership with performance improvement and corrective action processes.
  • Collaborates with the CHRO, employment counsel, and Firm leadership regarding complex employment matters, policy interpretation, risk management, and compliance issues.
  • Partners closely with the Director of Legal Support Staff regarding employee relations matters, performance management, staffing needs, recruiting efforts, candidate selection, difficult employee conversations, corrective action discussions, and separation meetings. Serves as a Human Resources resource and backup contact during periods of absence and escalates matters to the CHRO as appropriate.
  • Assists with timesheet review and correction processes in support of payroll administration.
  • Coordinates and supports recruiting efforts for legal assistants and administrators and paralegals and partners with hiring managers throughout the recruitment, selection, and onboarding process.
  • Supports and monitors employee performance evaluation process and employee development efforts.
  • Conducts exit interviews, analyzes turnover trends and employee feedback, and provides recommendations regarding retention and engagement opportunities.
  • Coordinates employee separations and related documentation processes in partnership with the CHRO.
  • Researches and monitors federal, state, and local employment law developments, evaluates potential impacts on Firm policies, practices, and procedures, and partners with the CHRO and HR team to implement updates to employee handbooks, state supplements, policies, and related employment documents.
  • Provides direction, coaching, and quality assurance for the HR Generalist's work product, including employment law research, compliance projects, policy development, handbook administration, and related HR initiatives.
  • Coordinates and supports compliance initiatives, including harassment prevention training, workplace violence prevention programs, and other required training programs.
  • Maintains Human Resources records, tracking systems, reports, and compliance documentation, including employee relations matters, training compliance records, exit interview data and other employment-related records. Ensures appropriate documentation is maintained within the HRIS and communicates significant trends and concerns to the CHRO.
  • Assists with unemployment claims, audits, agency inquiries, and employment-related requests.
  • Supports employee engagement, recognition, wellness, and culture-building initiatives.
  • Leads or participates in special projects, organizational initiatives, process improvement efforts, and strategic assignments as directed by the CHRO.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Preferred Education and Experience:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  2. At least five (5) or more years of progressive Human Resources experience with significant employee relations responsibility.
  3. Experience in talent acquisition, performance management, and employment law compliance.
  4. Experience of coaching and advising managers and department leaders.
  5. Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  6. Prior law firm or professional services experience preferred.
  7. PHR, SPHR, or SHRM-CP certification preferred.
