Position Summary

The Labor & Employee Relations HRBP serves as a trusted partner to HRBPs across the system and to operational leaders, providing guidance and support on labor and employee relations matters. The primary focus of this role is labor relations, including addressing grievances, and partnering with leaders to promote consistent and effective labor relations practices. This role will support hearings, arbitrations, and grievances, and will escalate complex or higher-risk matters to the Manager, Labor Relations as appropriate.

How You Will Make an Impact

Labor Relations & Business Partnership
  • Partner with HRBPs and operational leaders to address labor relations matters and employee concerns
  • Provide practice guidance on collective bargaining agreement interpretation and application
  • Support HRBPs and leaders in navigating union-related issues, contract questions, grievances, and workplace concerns
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with union representatives
  • Support routine grievances and partner with the Manager, Labor Relations on complex or higher-risk matters
  • Support preparation and management of hearings, arbitrations, and other formal labor relations processes
  • Assist with case preparation, documentation, and evidence gathering

Case Management
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation related to grievances, investigations, hearings, arbitrations, and other labor and employee relations matters
  • Monitor assigned cases and ensure appropriate follow-up and resolution
  • Identify issues requiring escalation based on complexity, risk, contractual consideration or legal exposure
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive employee and labor matters

Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business, or a related field or equivalent experience
  • 4-6+ years of progressive experience in labor relations, employee relations, human resources, or a related field
  • Experience working in a unionized environment
  • Working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and labor practices
  • Experience supporting grievances, investigations, employee relations matters, or other formal labor relations processes
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and appropriately escalate sensitive matters

Preferred:
  • Experience participating in collective bargaining negotiations
  • Experience in multi-location, multi-state environment
  • Experience developing labor relations strategy
  • HR or labor relations certifications
  • Experience operating in Railway Labor Act (RLA) unionized environment
