High Voltage Test Lab Manager - Instrument Transformers On-site | Full time | Senior (5+ years)A Snapshot of Your Day You will lead Trench Limited's High Voltage Test Lab for Instrument Transformers facility, owning day-to-day operations and long-term innovation while shaping strategic initiatives. You'll oversee technical excellence, resource planning, and safety culture, ensuring world-class testing standards are met across all test labs.
Your Tasks: - Lead and mentor supervisors and unionized lab personnel, fostering a culture of performance and safety.
- Manage engineering and technical functions within the test lab, ensuring high-quality testing and analysis.
- Develop and enforce standardized testing protocols in line with IEEE, CSA, and other global standards.
- Strategically manage lab cost center and budgets (CAPEX/OPEX), equipment lifecycle planning, preventive/corrective maintenance and capacity optimization.
- Spearhead continuous improvement initiatives to streamline testing processes and enhance operational efficiency.
- Champion Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) practices, integrating them into daily lab operations and development plans.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Production, R&D, Quality) for product qualification and issue resolution.
- Monitor and analyze test results to support product validation, development, and customer certification.
Requirements: - Educational background in Electrical Engineering required.
- P.Eng certification or eligibility is highly desirable (demonstrating strong engineering ethics and regulatory compliance).
- Minimum of 5-7 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment of Instrument Transformers (unionized experience preferred).
- Experience in High Voltage laboratory planning and control.
- In-depth understanding of high voltage electrical testing methodologies and equipment calibration.
- Strong Knowledge of high voltage test equipment, design specifications, and failure mechanisms.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, technical drawings, and product standards.
- Familiarity with IEEE, CSA, IEC standards relevant to Instrument Transformers and high voltage testing.
- Working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations, including Lockout/Tagout.
- Proficiency in advanced quality management tools: FMEA, DMAIC, 5 Why, SPC, and root cause analysis techniques.
- Experience using Lean or Six Sigma methodologies to improve testing throughput and accuracy.
- Data-driven mindset for analyzing trends, troubleshooting test deviations, and supporting production decisions.
- Proven ability to coach, develop, and engage cross-functional teams in a technical setting.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with peers, senior leadership, and external stakeholders.
We offer: In accordance with the Pay Transparency Act, we are committed to providing clear and accessible information about compensation for this role. The expected compensation range for this position is $105,000 - $150,000 / Annually. Actual compensation within this range will be determined based on several job-related factors, including relevant education, depth and breadth of experience, professional certifications or license, specialized skills aligned with the role, and internal equity considerations.
