Job Description:
The Head of U.S. Software Engineering is a transformational technology leader responsible for driving engineering excellence, modernization, cloud and platform strategy, API engineering, AI-enabled software delivery, and large-scale technology transformation across the enterprise.
This leader oversees a multidisciplinary organization spanning Software Engineering, API Engineering, Quality Engineering, DevSecOps, Cloud Engineering, and Engineering Enablement, partnering closely with Technology, Product, Architecture, Operations, Risk, Security, and Business leaders to deliver secure, resilient, scalable, and reusable technology capabilities that accelerate business outcomes
Depth & Scope:
- Provides people management leadership by hiring the best talent, setting goals, developing staff, managing employee performance and compensation decisions, promoting teamwork and handling any/all disciplinary actions, as required
- Oversees software engineering and API development teams
- Sets the strategic direction, overseeing the development of software solutions, managing the API lifecycle, and driving the adoption of best practices across the organization
- Establishes and maintains a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement and drive the development of scalable, high-performance software solutions that meet customer needs and deliver business value
- Oversees the software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, and deployment
- Ensures the adoption of industry best practices in software engineering, such as agile methodologies, DevSecOps
- Drives the use of modern software technologies and development frameworks, ensuring software systems are robust, secure, and scalable
- Ensures that APIs are designed, developed, and maintained with best practices around security, scalability, versioning, and performance
- Defines API standards, governance, and documentation to ensure consistency and reliability across the organization
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 15+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 7 years in a leadership role overseeing software and API development teams
- Proven hands on experience with API architecture, design, development, and management, including RESTful services, SOAP, and GraphQL, Kafka, Java, JavaScript, Python, Node.JS, SpringBoot, Swagger, Postman, Oracle
- Strong understanding of API security (OAuth, JWT)
- Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Knowledge of API management platforms (e.g., Apigee, API Gateway)
- Expertise in modern software engineering practices, tools, and technologies (e.g., cloud computing, microservices, containerization, CI/CD, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience with agile development methodologies and tools (Scrum, Jira, etc.)
- Familiarity with modern cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
