Full Job Description
We are seeking a Head of Software Quality and Technology to define and lead the strategy for software quality across Apex Legends and other Respawn games. This is a critical leadership role responsible for transforming how quality is built, measured, and delivered across a fast-paced, live service development environment. You will lead the evolution of quality from a validation function into a proactive, technology-enabled discipline, fully integrated into development and live operations. Partnering closely with Quality Verification (QV), Development, and Central EA teams, you will ensure that quality is engineered into the product, enabling rapid iteration without compromising player experience. You will report to the Head of Apex QV and be a key member of the Apex quality leadership team. Responsibilities Strategy & Transformation • Define and execute the Software Quality vision and roadmap for Apex as well as other Respawn-led Franchises, aligned with Franchise and EA-wide goals. • Drive shift-left quality practices, embedding quality throughout development, from early design through live service delivery. • Lead the integration of technology and automation frameworks into QV workflows to improve scale, coverage, speed and precision. • Establish a data-driven quality model, leveraging telemetry, predictive signals, and automation to anticipate risks and improve outcomes in a live environment. Execution & Live Operations • Build and scale automation-first strategies across functional, performance, and stability testing for a live service ecosystem. • Drive the definition and operationalization of Software Quality KPIs and health metrics, connecting development activity to real player experience. Leadership & Organization • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing organization spanning Quality Verification and Software Quality disciplines. • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement across teams. • Partner with engineering, development, and central teams to align on tools, standards, and best practices. • Lead across a globally distributed organization, ensuring alignment and effectiveness at scale. Partnership & Influence • Act as a strategic partner to Respawn development leadership, ensuring quality is a core pillar of execution and live service success. • Collaborate with central EA teams to leverage shared technology, AI, and automation capabilities. • Advocate for player-centric quality by connecting internal metrics to player experience, retention, and engagement outcomes. Requirements • 12+ years of experience in software quality, quality engineering, or software development, with progressive leadership responsibility. • Proven track record leading large, multidisciplinary QA/QE teams in high-scale, live or continuously delivered environments. • Strong technical background in test automation, CI/CD, performance engineering, and modern development practices. • Experience driving quality transformation initiatives, including shift-left strategies and automation at scale. • Demonstrated ability to define and operationalize KPIs and quality metrics tied to product and player outcomes. • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior leadership. • Experience working with globally distributed teams across multiple time zones. Pay Transparency - North America COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs). PAY RANGES * British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) *$204,600 - $287,500 CAD * California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. San Francisco) *$227,300 - $344,700 USD Pay is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. In the US, we offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and other incentive programs. For Canada, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees.
