The role manages multiple technical disciplines, including cloud infrastructure, enterprise networking, identity services, endpoint management, server and hosting platforms, and related infrastructure operations. The postholder ensures that these services are secure, reliable, supportable, and delivered in accordance with approved business, financial, security, and compliance requirements.

Working within the direction set by senior IT leadership, the role establishes departmental objectives, operating procedures, work plans, and priorities; manages the department budget; allocates resources; and delegates assignments across experienced technical professionals and, where applicable, subordinate managers.

The successful candidate will combine effective people leadership with broad technical knowledge and sound tactical decision-making. The role is expected to resolve complex operational issues, deliver larger infrastructure projects, and translate approved technology plans into practical, measurable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
Departmental Leadership & Operational Planning
  • Establish departmental objectives, operating procedures, work plans, delivery priorities, and performance expectations in line with approved IT strategy and organizational policies.
  • Translate approved infrastructure roadmaps into operational plans, resource assignments, schedules, and measurable departmental outcomes.
  • Make implementation decisions within delegated authority and escalate matters that require broader functional or enterprise direction.
  • Provide recommendations to senior IT leadership regarding infrastructure architecture, operational risk, service improvement, and technology investment.
Infrastructure & Platform Service Delivery
  • Manage the reliable and secure delivery of enterprise networking, cloud infrastructure, data center and hosting services, identity platforms, endpoint management, collaboration infrastructure, and server services.
  • Coordinate the work of multiple infrastructure disciplines and ensure clear ownership, effective handoffs, and consistent operating practices.
  • Monitor service availability, capacity, performance, supportability, technical debt, and lifecycle risk, implementing corrective plans where required.
  • Establish and review departmental KPIs, SLAs, operational health measures, and service improvement actions.
Cloud & Platform Implementation
  • Manage delivery of cloud infrastructure services across Azure, AWS, and related hosting environments in accordance with approved architecture and governance standards.
  • Plan and deliver approved cloud migrations, platform upgrades, infrastructure rationalization, and legacy hosting reduction activities.
  • Ensure cloud and hosting environments meet defined requirements for resilience, security, cost, supportability, documentation, and operational readiness.
  • Work with application owners, architects, Security, and service providers to sequence and deliver migration and modernization plans.
Network Architecture & Engineering Oversight
  • Manage enterprise network services and provide technical direction across SD-WAN, routing and switching, firewalls, network segmentation, VLAN and VRF design, internet and WAN connectivity, and hybrid cloud networking.
  • Oversee network workstreams for site openings, relocations, consolidations, lab environments, and business segmentation initiatives.
  • Review technical designs and implementation plans to confirm alignment with approved standards, security controls, operational support requirements, and change processes.
  • Advise technical teams on moderately complex network and infrastructure matters and coordinate resolution of issues that span disciplines.
Endpoint, Identity & Security Platforms
  • Manage infrastructure delivery and operational support for endpoint management, device compliance, identity services, privileged access controls, endpoint security platforms, and infrastructure hardening standards.
  • Deliver approved transitions and improvements involving Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Defender, Entra ID, Active Directory, Azure Arc, and related endpoint and identity services.
  • Coordinate implementation with Information Security, Service Desk, regional IT, and technical suppliers.
  • Ensure controls and operational procedures are applied consistently, documented, monitored, and remediated where gaps are identified.
Compliance, Resilience & Risk
  • Implement infrastructure controls and remediation plans required to support CMMC, NIST-based controls, ISO standards, government or defense requirements, and internal audit activities.
  • Manage departmental activities relating to network segmentation, access governance, asset and configuration records, infrastructure baselines, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
  • Maintain evidence and documentation required to demonstrate that assigned infrastructure controls are operating as intended.
  • Identify departmental risks, assess operational impact, define corrective actions, and report significant risks to senior IT leadership.
IT Service Management & Change Governance
  • Ensure infrastructure teams comply with established Incident, Problem, Change, Asset, Configuration, Request, and Access Management processes.
  • Represent Infrastructure in CAB, problem review, major incident, service review, and operational governance forums.
  • Oversee pilot planning, implementation sequencing, risk and impact assessment, business and Service Desk communications, rollback planning, and post-implementation review for major infrastructure changes.
  • Improve departmental procedures and supporting ServiceNow workflows within delegated process ownership and governance.
Budget, Suppliers & Cost Management
  • Prepare, manage, and monitor the departmental infrastructure budget in accordance with approved financial plans and delegated authority.
  • Manage day-to-day relationships and performance across managed service providers, cloud providers, network carriers, hosting providers, security vendors, and technology partners.
  • Support sourcing, contract renewal, service review, and purchasing decisions by providing technical requirements, usage data, risk assessments, and recommendations.
  • Identify and implement approved opportunities to consolidate services, reduce unnecessary cost, improve licensing efficiency, and optimize infrastructure consumption.
People Leadership & Global Ways of Working
  • Manage and develop experienced infrastructure professionals across multiple disciplines and regions and, where applicable, oversee subordinate managers or team leads.
  • Delegate assignments, establish accountability, review delivery, coach team members, and address capability or performance gaps through established management processes.

  • Maintain departmental succession plans, skills development priorities, architecture documentation, standards, runbooks, diagrams, and knowledge-sharing practices.

  • Broad technical knowledge across enterprise networking, cloud platforms, identity services, endpoint management, infrastructure security, server platforms, and IT operations.
  • Experience managing departmental budgets, suppliers, contracts, service performance, and cost optimization activities.
  • Working knowledge of ITSM processes and platforms, including Change, Incident, Problem, Asset, Configuration, Request, and Access Management.
  • Strong written, verbal, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills, including the ability to explain technical risks and recommendations to senior management.
