Full Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced Head of Compliance to lead the Compliance team within the Policy Engagement department of the Advocacy division. This position reports to the VP, Policy Engagement & Credit Union Operations.

Responsibilities:

Compliance Expert / SME
• Serve as a subject matter expert on federal statutes, regulations, and guidance applicable to credit unions, including from the NCUA, CFPB, FinCEN, FHFA, SBA, CDFI Fund, and other agencies that impact depository financial institutions.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for external and internal compliance inquiries and demonstrate mastery of credit union compliance issues by regularly delivering presentations at industry conferences and events, leading webinars, and acting as the key advisor for many of the association's compliance education offerings.
• Regularly engage with and respond to technical inquiries from credit unions and state league partners, identifying and resolving compliance, operational, and examination issues. Provide accurate, timely, and practical guidance on complex regulatory compliance questions to both internal and external stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain compliance resources, including regulatory summaries and guides, FAQs, white papers, model policies, and other member tools.
• Represent America's Credit Unions in industry working groups, coalitions, interagency meetings, and external stakeholder forums
• Provide guidance on new or ongoing litigation that is of interest to the credit union industry to assess compliance implications.
• Work cross-functionally within the Advocacy team to bring compliance issues to the forefront of our advocacy efforts by identifying regulatory burdens and translating compliance concerns into legislative and regulatory advocacy priorities. This includes participating in the comment letter process by contributing compliance expertise to regulatory rulemaking and agency proposals.

Compliance Content Curation
• Develop, update, or otherwise procure content involving new compliance developments, updates, applications or clarifications. Proactively lead the Compliance team in timely delivering compliance content across various channels.
• Independently oversee the writing of final analyses of all new federal regulations impacting compliance, and updates and maintains current compliance publications.
• Lead and leverage America's Credit Unions' Compliance team to produce new content while finding ways to optimize workflow, driving efficiency especially when coordinating efforts across teams.
• Anticipate new resource needs and innovative ways for the Compliance team to provide relevant and valuable resources for credit union members of all sizes.
• Work closely with compliance solutions and learning team leaders on strategy and compliance education. Contribute ideas, strategies and efficiencies to the 'what's next' of product design.

Team Leadership
• Provide strategic leadership and supervision to the team of Compliance attorneys.
• Intuitively identify and solution ways to improve team and department health/engagement.
• Ensure Compliance attorneys are fulfilling the duties of their role and maintaining the day-to-day operations of the Advocacy agenda.
• Provide regular feedback and work with the team on the establishment of performance goals to promote skill and subject matter expertise development.

Requirements:
• 8+ years of experience as a compliance attorney/compliance counsel.
• 2+ years of experience leading and supervising a team of staff.
• Juris Doctorate (JD), and a member in good standing of a state or DC bar association.
• Deep understanding of financial institution laws and regulations and proven success providing comprehensive written and verbal analysis of complex legal issues.
• Proven ability to produce high-quality written materials, including regulatory analyses, policy briefs, comment letters, and compliance resources.
• Must be a continuous learner who maintains a comprehensive knowledge of ever-changing federal laws, regulations, guidelines, interpretive rulings and policy statements, federal bylaws, legal opinions, and court rulings impacting credit unions. Must also possess a deep understanding of federal examination standards, examiner questionnaires, call report filings, Letters to Credit Unions and other documents of regulatory oversight impacting credit union operations, and the proven capability to quickly differentiate state versus federal issues.
• Experience managing a team; ability to effectively communicate expectations and offer strategic direction, deliver regular feedback, hold people accountable, and ensure consistently high performance.
• Proven ability to think ahead, creatively problem solve, and take initiative. Able to make decisions that positively impact the team while also considering the division and association priorities.
• Solid listening and investigative skills, and an ability to organize information clearly and efficiently.
• Demonstrated agility and willingness to pivot quickly to address new projects and requests as needed.
• Strong professional team player who treats others with respect, and is someone people want to work with. Able to build meaningful relationships, work collaboratively, influence a range of stakeholders, and manage conflict effectively.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with keen attention to detail and an ability to bring clarity to complex topics, adapt writing seamlessly for various diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated experience delivering training or educational content to diverse audiences that result in an effective and well-understood transfer of knowledge.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
• Credit union operational experience strongly preferred.
• Ability to travel up to 20+ days per year.
