Full Job Description
Hardware Design Engineer This role has been designed as ''Onsite'' with an expectation that you will primarily work from an HPE office. Designs, analyzes, develops, modifies and evaluates electrical/electronic parts, components, sub-systems, algorithms, or integrated circuitry for electrical/electronic equipment and other hardware systems. Conducts feasibility studies, design margin and validation analyses and empirical testing on new and modified designs. Assists in architecture development and assessment. Evaluates reliability of materials, properties, designs, and techniques used in production. May direct support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication. Contributions include applying developed subject matter expertise to solve common and sometimes complex technical problems and recommending alternatives where necessary. Might act as project lead and provide assistance to lower level professionals. Exercises independent judgment and consults with others to determine best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives. Hardware systems engineer working with architects, product line managers, software engineers, test engineers and NPI (New Product Introduction) teams to develop cutting edge, high-end routing platforms. Will be involved with product development from concept to mass production and customer support. Responsibilities: 3 Participate in product feasibility and definition 3 Ownership of hardware design and hardware test, including specifications, schematics, BOMs, prototype lab bring-up and maintenance, hardware test plans and reports 3 Collaborate with the following hardware engineering teams: signal integrity, power, thermal, PCB design, mechanical, DFM/DFT, lab technicians 3 Review/approve test reports and support the following: EDVT, MDVT, NEBS, HALT, Safety, EMC teams 3 Participate in defining diagnostics tests for manufacturing and development 3 Training and support of manufacturing, customer support and sustaining teams 3 Collaborate with software, test and diagnostics engineering 3 Work with program manager and engineering lead to provide project status 3 Work with component engineering and commodity managers on external component selection and qualification 3 Interface with external component suppliers on implementation and debug 3 Flexible hours to accommodate collaboration with engineering teams across geographies Minimum Qualifications: 3 Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering 3 Role requires 2+ days a week in Sunnyvale office 3 4+ years of experience with board design 3 Solid proficiency in electrical circuit and schematic design 3 Knowledge of systems design considerations from several of the following angles: software, firmware, BIOS, PCB layout, signal integrity, mechanical, thermal, power, EMI compliance, manufacturability, testability, MTBF and COGS 3 Awareness of PCB stackup techniques for multiple-layer, high speed printed circuit boards 3 Experience with design and debug of boards with interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, clocks 3 Hands-on experience and skilled debugging proficiency using lab measurement equipment (high speed oscilloscope) 3 Strong passion for building hardware projects, solving challenging problems and intrinsically curious about how things work 3 Excellent communication skills in a cross-functional team environment Preferred Qualifications: 3 Experience with high speed SerDes and high speed memory interfaces 3 Experience with embedded CPU and SoC subsystems 3 Strong Python programming and scripting skills 3 Understanding of routing, switching and pluggable optics (QSFP-DD, OSFP) 3 Experience using Cadence Allegro PCB Designer layout tool and Cadence System Capture schematic capture tool 3 Familiarity with FPGA operation, debug and Verilog 3 Hands-on experience testing complex L2/L3 products with Ethernet packet generators such as Keysight/Ixia or Viavi/Spirent 3 Experience in a Unix/Linux environment What We Can Offer You: Health & Wellbeing We strive to provide our team members and their loved ones with a comprehensive suite of benefits that supports their physical, financial and emotional wellbeing.
