Full Job Description
The Greenhouse Manager position offers the opportunity to lead key initiatives, influence decision making, and assist with all aspects of plant production. This position oversees plant production development, health, and quality. This person will work directly with the plug production manager to coordinate scheduling of propagation, and plant maintenance to ensure exceptional crop quality, all while exhibiting high emphasis on efficiency and team safety. This is an opportunity for a passionate horticulture professional to act as a resource and mentor for developing team members of a high-performing team and influence the success of one of the region's most respected greenhouse operations.

Key Responsibilities Greenhouse & Crop Management
  • Oversee all stages of plant production to ensure high-quality, on time crops.
  • Manage environmental controls, including air/soil temperature, ventilation, irrigation, humidity, and fertility.
  • Receive and care for young plant liners.
  • Monitor plant health daily and make timely adjustments to maintain optimal growth.
  • Conduct daily insects and disease scouting to minimize crop loss.
  • Strategically coordinate with plug production managers for crop scheduling, sowing, planting, and moving.
  • Ensure all greenhouse facilities and equipment operate safely and efficiently.
  • Act as a resource and mentor to develop team members while fostering a collaborative, high-performing work environment while leading by example through strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Drive initiatives and implement strategies that expand production capacity, improve output, and enable long-term growth.

Key Areas of Impact:
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve productivity, quality, and production volume while overseeing greenhouse operations to support expansion and increased production.

Quality & Recordkeeping
  • Maintain detailed records of crop progress, environmental conditions, pest management, and team activities.
  • Conduct daily crop checks and weekly walkthroughs with the Grower/Production Coach.
  • Evaluate processes for efficiency, effectiveness, and safety, contributing to continuous improvement.

Qualifications
  • The ideal candidate will bring 5-10+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • 3+ years as a Head Grower or 5+ years as an Assistant Grower in a large commercial greenhouse (preferred).
  • 3+ years of direct leadership experience.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, Agriculture, Agronomy, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Strong passion for plants, quality, and innovation.
  • Proven leadership and team-building skills.
  • Ability to set priorities, work independently, and meet goals with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work weekends as needed.

Pay Range:
• Various Locations in ME, VA-$67,700.00 - $98,100.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
