Job OverviewThe Global Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) and Sustainability Director will be accountable for leading the global EHS strategy and governance across all sites.
The Global EHS & Sustainability Director is responsible for functional leadership of the global EHS organization including standardized processes, metrics, audits and best practices. It also includes responsibility for our global facilities of all OmniOn Power locations.
EHS leadership is critical to ensure we have the right strategy, processes, tools & teams to keep our employees safe & to protect our business. The qualified candidate will manage complex issues within the EHS function, is involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy.
The role reports to SVP, Global Operations and is located in Plano, Texas.
Responsibilities Your typical duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following and may be done personally or through subordinate team members:
- Accountable for leading the global EHS strategy and governance across all countries including standardized processes, metrics, audits and best practices.
- Produces reporting for executive briefs including risk management, business continuity and crisis management.
- Create and maintain global EHS policies and procedures that comply with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards. Monitor and ensure compliance with local, regional, and national EHS regulations and standards.
- Develop and deliver EHS training programs to employees and contractors either personally or through the team. Ensure they have the knowledge and skills to work safely and comply with EHS policies.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine the root causes, contributing factors, and lessons learned. Report incidents to relevant authorities as required and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Assess the EHS performance and capabilities of contractors and suppliers. Ensure they adhere to the organization's EHS standards and requirements.
- Create and drive the organization's ESG vision, goals, and strategies in alignment with environmental, social, and economic priorities. Assess current practices, identify areas for improvement, and set targets for sustainability performance. Implement practices to reduce energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, waste generation, and pollution. Create and ensure compliance with customer sustainability requirements and environmental stewardship.
- Ensure smooth operation of essential facility operations, such as security, cleaning, waste management, and utilities.
- Develop business security requirements, plans & strategies; and oversee their implementation. Establish protocols for access control, physical security, information security, incident response, and emergency preparedness.
- Manage real estate portfolio, which includes owned and leased properties.
- Establish performance indicators, monitor metrics, and prepare reports on performance for management and regulatory authorities. This includes analyzing data, identifying trends, and making recommendations for improvement.
- Identify potential hazards, evaluate risks, and implement measures to mitigate and control them. Conduct risk assessments, develop safety protocols, and provide recommendations to improve safety performance.
- Foster a people centric safety culture. Promote EHS awareness, encourage employee engagement, and recognize & and reward safe behaviors.
- Continuously review and improve related management systems, processes, and practices to enhance performance. Stay up to date with industry best practices, technological advancements, and regulatory changes to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
- People manager responsibilities including hiring, managing, and leading a team (employees, contractors or contracting services).
- Collaborate and maintain effective communication with internal & external stakeholders with required urgency & professionalism.
- Domestic and international travel, approximately 25%, required.
- Available to collaborate with global teams and management including night and early morning meetings as necessary.
- Performing any other reasonable duties as directed by line management.
Basic Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety, engineering or related field
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience in Environment, Health & Safety.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership role in EHS.
- Minimum of 2 years people management experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of facilities management experience.
- Global multi-site manufacturing leadership experience
Desired Characteristics - Professional certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, ISO 14001/45001).
- Experience in sustainability, facility management, real estate portfolio management, supply chain or operations.
- Global EHS experience - specifically China, India & Mexico
- Experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience in an R&D environment
- Experience in Electrical Safety
- Experience in Risk Assessment Process
- Experience in High-Risk Operations & Hazard Recognition
- Experience in Injury and Illness recordkeeping per OSHA requirements
- Experience in Project Management
- Certified OSHA instructor
- Proficiency with digital tools including Microsoft Office, PowerBI, Benchmark Gensuite, training trackers and related industry tools.
