Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of Senior Superintendents and Superintendents on-site.
  • Oversee project development, including job site visits and estimating review.
  • Assist in the scope writing and bid procurement processes.
  • Develop and manage large, complex project schedules.
  • Hold regular meetings to ensure proper project execution and documentation.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate staff to achieve team goals.
  • Conduct weekly job site visits and safety meetings to ensure compliance and communication.

Full Job Description
The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are looking for a General Superintendent to be a part of our Data Center Innovations division. The General Superintendent will lead team of Senior Superintendents and Superintendents. Ensures complex, multi-discipline projects are successful through on-site management of multiple subcontractors. Additionally, some responsibilities may include:

Project Management:
  • Development Support (initial Pre-Con including job site visit, drawing review, scope writing, scope reviews, estimating review).
  • Assist Project Manager with scope writing and bid procurement.
  • Regularly communicate, formally and informally, company goals, policies, plans and priorities to field personnel.
  • Develops and manages large and complex project schedules.
  • Hold meetings and develop minutes as required for proper project execution.


Manage People:
  • Trains, mentors, and manages staff in effective tactics to attain team goals.
  • Create performance plans, assess performance, and provide performance feedback.
  • Resource staffing in conjunction with Ops Manager (assigning and managing resource & project workload) for current and future projects.
  • Holds monthly safety meeting with all Superintendents and stays current on McKinstry Safety Policies.
  • Visits Jobsites and Direct Reports on weekly basis.
  • Create standards for Direct Reports (schedules, sharing data (Teams Sites), safety, daily reporting, sub management).


Communication:
  • Oversees subcontractors and field personnel who may include union and non-union workers.
  • Ensures client concerns are resolved in a timely manner. Gets involved in Direct Report field and/or client issues as appropriate.
  • Resolves (and/or helps Direct Reports) resolve subcontractor disputes as appropriate.
  • Act as steward of McKinstry culture.
  • Work with other McKinstry departments on standards of delivery. Meet regularly with Technical Services and Self-Perform Mechanical, Electrical and Carpentry teams with focus on improving internal standard processes.

Safety:
  • Upholds and communicates McKinstry safety standards.
  • Coordinates with Safety team to create and communicate site safety plan.
  • Ensures safety compliance of subcontractors and all on-site personnel.
  • Hosts and documents Weekly Safety meetings; Reviews the job specific safety plan from each sub and make sure the unsafe work has a pre-plan agenda prior to starting.
  • Logs and files safety reports.
  • Prepares and distributes safety incident reports for internal purposes.


What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry
  • BA/BS degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architecture or Facilities Management or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • OSHA 30 certification required or must be obtained within 6 months of assuming position.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction management, commercial building process, and OSHA standards required.
  • Seven to ten years of leadership of trades and job sites required. People management experience required.
  • Must have demonstrated proficiency for all the responsibilities of a Senior Superintendent.
  • Intermediate working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of SharePoint preferred.
  • Advanced Working knowledge of scheduling software: Microsoft Project, Primavera and/or Suretrak required.

The pay range for this position is $105,030 - $185,500 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
