Full Job Description
You will serve as a GENERAL ENGINEER in the Electrical and Sensor Systems Branch of the In-Service Submarines Systems Engineering Division (SUB-E57) of PEO SSN. Duties Help • You will be the Senior Engineer for In-Service Submarine Electrical and Sensor Systems. • You will lead and provide technical oversight of sustainment activities for In-Service Submarine Electrical and Sensor systems and/or systems components. • You will ensure appropriate systems engineering processes are properly applied during In-Service Submarine Electrical and Sensor systems life cycle sustainment. • You will plan, manage and coordinate various engineering development programs involving system monitoring, evaluation, modification, and analysis of other pertinent factors affecting In-Service Submarine Electrical and Sensor system performance. • You will keep abreast of latest engineering technological advances as well as state of the art applications pertinent to the development of new products or theories within various engineering fields. • You will be responsible for all system engineering aspects of the Performance Monitoring Program (PMP) for all assigned In-Service Submarine Electrical and Sensor systems. • You will develop operational and technical documentation and procedures or coordinate with other systems engineers to include: PMP Operations manuals, PMS procedures, Performance Criteria Manuals, System Health reports. • You will provide engineering oversight of Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) engineering practices. • You will assist in resolving technical issues for Performance Monitoring Teams (PMTs) and other systems engineers as required. Certification in the Functional Area and Tier assigned to the position, along with Continuous Learning (CL) points, are required within established timeframes. • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NH-03 (GS-13 equivalency) pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Engineer monitoring system performance to provide technical guidance for the maintenance, overhaul, or sustainment practices for surface ships or submarine systems. Education Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above) OR Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions. Additional information This position is part of the Department of Defense Civilian Acquisition Workforce Personnel Demonstration Project. The NH-4 broadband level encompasses positions equivalent to GS-14 and GS-15. Salary is capped at GS-15, Step 5 ($191,850). If your current salary is above this amount, your salary may be matched.
