Job Description:The Boston Globe is seeking a fast, creative, and dynamic general assignment reporter to join its Business desk.
This is a job with a wide purview, and it demands a high metabolism. We're looking for someone to cover a broad range of business topics, who can carve out a focus area or two, and who can produce quick breaking news stories and also go deep on enterprise. We want someone who's eager to find new ways to tell stories across platforms while always ensuring our journalism feels smart, urgent, and essential.
Sound fun? Good. That's what we're after.
You'd be part of an 18-person Business team that prides itself on collaboration and takes a broad view of what business journalism can be. Mostly, we want to explore how economic forces shape everyday life here in New England - think workplaces, affordability, consumer trends, and culture. Experience covering business or the economy is great, but not essential. More important is an eye for good stories, a willingness to think creatively about how we tell them, a fast motor, and strong reporting skills.
If that sounds like you, we would love to talk.
Responsibilities:- Conceive, report, and write daily stories on a wide range of business news for both digital and print platforms of The Boston Globe.
- Execute stories that range from breaking news to weekly enterprise, pivoting between the two seamlessly.
- Collaborate with fellow reporters across Business, Metro, Express, and other news teams, as well as colleagues in Audience, Photo, Video, Audio, and Data Visualization, to tell stories across platforms and reach the widest audience possible.
Qualifications:- At least two to three years of professional experience at a daily or real-time news organization.
- A digital-first mindset and a willingness to tell stories across a variety of media.
- Ability to deliver clean copy on deadline consistently.
- A collaborative spirit and a good sense of humor are non negotiable
- A willingness to adapt and be audience-focused, with a curious mindset and a commitment to creating an inclusive work environment.
Bonus Points if You...- Have experience covering business or the economy.
- Speak a foreign language - if you do, let us know.
We know that there are strong candidates who may not fit precisely into what we've described above or who have important skills we haven't thought of. If that's you, don't hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself.
Compensation: $74,911 - $120,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
