Description:Trinity Health Of New England is seeking a compassionate and highly skilled Genetic Counselor to join our multidisciplinary care team. In this role, you will partner with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive genetic counseling, risk assessment, and testing services for patients and their families.
The Genetic Counselor plays a critical role in identifying and managing hereditary conditions through patient education, risk evaluation, care coordination, and evidence-based recommendations. This position also supports program development, community outreach, quality improvement initiatives, and research activities designed to advance genetic services and improve patient outcomes.
What You'll Do
- Provide comprehensive genetic counseling services to individuals and families with suspected or confirmed hereditary conditions, supporting informed healthcare decisions and personalized care plans.
- Conduct detailed genetic risk assessments through evaluation of personal and family medical histories, clinical findings, and diagnostic information.
- Educate patients and families regarding hereditary risk factors, genetic testing options, potential outcomes, and recommended follow-up care.
- Provide ongoing psychosocial support throughout the patient care journey.
- Interpret genetic and clinical data and collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary care teams to develop evidence-based treatment and management recommendations.
- Coordinate and facilitate genetic testing, including patient education, informed consent, result interpretation, and communication of findings.
- Participate in clinical research studies, data collection efforts, and research protocols that support advancements in genetic medicine and patient care.
- Assist with program development initiatives, community outreach activities, screening programs, and educational efforts that promote awareness of hereditary disease risk.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, Trinity Health policies, and all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Serve as a genetics resource for physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals by providing consultation and education on hereditary disease risk assessment and management.
- Collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams to support high-quality, patient-centered care and organizational goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Genetic Counseling, Human Genetics, Molecular Genetics, or a related field required.
- Board certification or board eligibility through the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) required.
- Certification preferred upon hire; certification must be obtained within established organizational guidelines if board eligible.
- Two (2) or more years of genetic counseling experience required.
- Experience in hereditary risk assessment, patient and family counseling, genetic testing coordination, and multidisciplinary care collaboration preferred.
