Position Summary

As a key member of the Clinical Finance Team, the Financial Analyst II performs a wide range of professional accounting activities requiring application of advanced professional and competent knowledge of accounting concepts, principles and practices. This individual works independently under broad direction and within established accounting systems. The scope of the role includes effective financial planning, performance measurement, and analysis of activities, revenues, and costs. The role works closely with stakeholders (senior management, unit managers, and directors) reviewing, strategizing and making recommendations on Unit/Program financials; preparing and analyzing monthly/quarterly packages to facilitate decision making and financial/activity reporting. The role also supports billing oversight and revenue optimization initiatives within Laboratory Medicine Program (LMP), including process standardization and continuous improvement of billing practices.

Duties
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, dashboards, and analysis packages to support leadership in operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and other month-end close activities for assigned portfolios.
  • Conduct monthly variance and trend analysis, highlighting key drivers, risks, and opportunities for senior management.
  • Review and validate Laboratory Medicine Program (LMP) billing across Epic and external billing systems to ensure completeness, accuracy, and alignment with funding and contractual requirements.
  • Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, working closely with operational, clinical, and corporate stakeholders to address inquiries and ensure timely issue resolution.
  • Support the development, documentation, and continuous improvement of end-to-end billing processes and standard operating procedures (SOPs), including controls and audit readiness.
  • Identify opportunities to improve billing efficiency, automation, and revenue capture through process enhancements, system optimization, and data-driven insights.
  • Coordinate the annual operating budget process and maintain rolling forecasts throughout the fiscal year for assigned portfolios.
  • Provide timely, data-driven insights and financial guidance to support optimal decision-making.
  • Collaborate with program managers and directors during monthly/quarterly financial reviews; support action plan development and identify cost-saving or revenue-enhancement opportunities.
  • Liaise with corporate finance departments for program such as financial management, activity reporting, case costing, and funding proposals, as well as funding reconciliations and audit requirements.
  • Participate in ad-hoc clinical and financial projects by providing financial/statistical analysis and strategic insights to drive decision making.
  • Model and analyze large volume of clinical data to help drive decision making including case volume and personnel planning.


Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in financial analysis and accounting, preferably within a complex, multi-funded, or healthcare environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and standards, financial planning, and budgeting processes.
  • University degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or equivalent program required.
  • Obtained or working towards the CPA designation.
  • Demonstrated expertise in performing complex data analysis and interpreting large volumes of financial and statistical data.
  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Excel; proficiency in Power BI, SAP, Epic, or similar ERP/clinical/financial systems is a strong asset.
  • Proficient in preparing detailed financial reports, dashboards, and business cases tailored to stakeholders.
  • Practical experience leveraging AI-powered tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, Claude Code, or similar) to streamline routine finance tasks such as data extraction, report generation, reconciliation support, or variance analysis; demonstrated initiative in applying AI to improve day-to-day FP&A workflows and reduce manual effort is a strong asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships and collaborate across cross-functional teams, including operational leaders, clinical staff, corporate finance, and external partners.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with a proven ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and a solution-driven mindset.
  • Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality, privacy legislation, and internal controls related to sensitive financial data.
