Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARY:The Senior Facilities Engineering Manager will build and lead an in-house facilities engineering program, ensuring safe, compliant, and reliable operation of all building systems and manufacturing support infrastructure. This hands-on leader will drive preventive maintenance, capital planning, operational excellence, and team development while aligning facilities strategy with company goals.
GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Leadership & Team Management- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing facilities engineering team
- Supervise managers, technical staff, and vendors; set clear KPIs and service standards
- Align team priorities with business objectives and production needs
- Build relationships and work closely with all teams onsite to hit deliverables
- Know when to lead from the frontlines, be a servant-leader, and when to hand off to your team
- Drive continuous improvement
Operations & Maintenance- Oversee operation, maintenance, testing and repair of mechanical/HVAC, electrical, plumbing, utilities, and manufacturing-related systems, keeping all records up to date
- Operate BMS/CMMS for building systems, work orders, asset tracking, preventative maintenance and performance data
- Respond to and lead resolution of critical incidents 24/7 (power failures, leaks, equipment breakdowns, etc.)
- Ensure safe work practices and regulatory compliance (OSHA, local/state/federal codes)
- Respond to environmental reports (IAQ, humidity, temperature, etc.); engage specialists as necessary
- Build relationships with the landlord and property management, securing their approval for projects when necessary
- Manage waste, recycling, and destruction programs, including turning waste into rebates
- Maintain drawing sets and ensure they're kept up to date with all changes
Program & Project Management- Build and maintain a comprehensive facilities engineering program focused on uptime and continuous improvement
- Manage capital projects, construction, and building modifications working closely with the project management team
- Develop and manage operating and capital budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting
- Oversee vendor contracts, bidding processes, insurance/warranty claims, and utility management
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws, codes, and regulations
- Purchase parts and tools, manage inventory, including critical spares
- Track and report on service level agreements and key performance indicators
- Maintain periodic inspection schedule, close out action items, and send out reports
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field is required
- Must have HVAC and/or electrical licenses/certifications
- 15+ years of facilities engineering experience, including hands-on technical work
- Experience managing in-house teams and third-party vendors in industrial or commercial environments
Knowledge Skills and ABILITIES:- Strong technical expertise and demonstrated ability in industrial facility systems and equipment
- Extensive training and focus on safe work practices
- Proven leadership, budgeting, teamwork, program and project management skills
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and technical documentation, run calculations
- Strong communication skills and a proactive, problem-solving mindset
- Proficiency in MS Office, CAD software, CMMS/BMS, etc.
WORKING CONDITIONS:- Ability to work indoors/outdoors over varied terrain and in all weather conditions, at heights, and in confined spaces
- Lead and participate in after-hours and on-call support
- Perform physically demanding tasks and safely use required PPE
- Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing
