Job DescriptionThe Facilities Engineering team provides facilities designs and engineering guidance across BAE Systems SMS campuses in Westminster, Broomfield, and Boulder. We are seeking a candidate to be an architectural technical expert for the Facilities organization. In this role, the successful candidate will perform architectural engineering duties in planning, designing, overseeing construction, and maintenance of building systems and facilities.
The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution - from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the-art manufacturing and test operations and top-notch facilities management.
What You'll Do:- Be a technical expert in the architectural discipline and support project efforts.
- Take lead architectural and engineering roles on projects, with responsibilities for multiple disciplines.
- Provide architectural and engineering guidance to consultants, in-house project managers, and maintenance personnel.
- Manage external design consultant resources needed to execute project designs and studies.
- Develop and maintain architectural standards for design and construction.
- Develop and implement strategies to identify, monitor, and repair architectural and code related issues with buildings.
- Complete code studies and ADA analysis and provide guidance to BAE Systems SMS staff.
- Prepare statements of work to solicit design or construction proposals.
- Plan, budget, and manage facilities design and study efforts including code analysis/studies.
- Assist project managers during construction phase of projects with Request for Information (RFI) and submittal review, as well as field inspections.
- Provide technical guidance to consulting architects and engineers, or BAE Systems SMS personnel regarding design, construction, or program modifications or repairs.
- Review new designs for effectiveness, efficiency, and adherence to codes and standards.
- Monitor and assess impact of regulatory changes related to building and systems design.
- Assist maintenance and internal customers with Facilities issues or concerns.
- Work with maintenance to enhance building system functionality.
- Complete design tasks as needed. May include complete designs for smaller projects or may be development of schematic drawings.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working
on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions: - Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
- May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
- May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
Required Skills and Education- BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 4 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- Working knowledge of all aspects of facility design (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, architectural).
- Working knowledge of 2021/2024 IBC and IFC and ADA regulations. Cursory knowledge of the other I-Codes, zoning regulations, and development processes.
- Proficient in the use of personal computer software; Microsoft Office Suite and design software such as AutoCAD and Revit.
- Proven history of using critical thinking skills to improve processes/operations and increase efficiency.
- Demonstrated ability to manage work schedule and meet deadlines.
- Excellent organizational skills and detail-orientation demonstrated through an ability to manage work schedule, manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Proven history of implementation of safe workplace practices.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Proven history of creating collaborative relationships across the company and all levels of personnel.

A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.
Preferred Skills and Education- Degree in Architecture or Architectural Engineering preferred.
- Registered Architect is highly desired.
- Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment is highly desired.
- Experience with cleanroom and lab design is desired.
- Experience with design of secured spaces is highly preferred.
