Position Summary (Purpose of job): The Field Support Specialist - Level 3 leads delivery of comprehensive onsite IT support across McKesson locations to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant technology operations. The position is accountable for diagnosing and resolving a wide range of end-user issues, directing deployments of standard images, hardware, telecom, and application configurations, and maintaining IT controlled areas in accordance with enterprise policies.
This role contributes to business continuity by conducting site assessments and gap analyses, translating findings into technical specifications, and coordinating cross functional resources to execute approved changes. It involves close collaboration with remote support teams, vendors, and other departments to address complex technical challenges. The Specialist provides training and guidance to end users and mentors' junior technicians to promote consistency, self-sufficiency, and high quality outcomes.
Key Responsibilities: - Deliver comprehensive on-site IT support across multiple sites; lead triage and resolution of diverse end-user issues.
- Diagnose and resolve a wide range of technical problems, drive root cause analysis and permanent fixes.
- Lead deployment and configuration of new or upgraded images, software, hardware, and telecommunications solutions.
- Conduct application configuration and implementation following evaluation and approval; validate against standards.
- Perform site assessments and gap analyses and produce technical specifications for installations.
- Manage and maintain IT-controlled areas (e.g., data centers, communication closets) to ensure safety and compliance.
- Support disaster recovery planning and testing activities; document results and remediate findings.
- Provide training and guidance to end users; coach L1/L2 staff to promote self-sufficiency and consistent execution.
- Collaborate with remote support, vendors, and other departments; escalate complex issues with clear handoffs.
- Document support activities, troubleshooting steps, and configurations; maintain technical documents and service reports.
Minimum Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities): - Advanced on-site troubleshooting and hardware diagnostics, including printers and peripherals.
- Proficiency in hardware installation and standard image/software deployment at enterprise scale.
- Working knowledge of smart device maintenance and IoT device troubleshooting in field environments.
- Familiarity with predictive hardware diagnostics/AI-powered predictive maintenance tools to anticipate failures.
- Ability to perform or oversee remote equipment calibration and apply insights from mobile AR field apps/wearables.
- Strong asset handling and inventory control for IT-controlled areas (data centers, communication closets).
- Competence in creating technical specifications, procedure documents, and accurate service reports.
- Customer & Business Driven mindset with strength in problem solving, building relationships, and adaptability.
Business Experience: - Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Typically requires 4+ years of relevant professional experience in field support, desktop support, or similar technical roles, including multi-site support leadership.
- Deep knowledge of information technology and business concepts with the ability to translate site requirements into technical specifications.
