Overview

Purpose Statement/Position Summary:

The Security Executive Director has strategic oversight of CHLA Security. Manages, supervises, plans, and directs the hospital's security program and security personnel. Develops, implements, and enforces security strategies, policies, procedures, and standards to ensure the safety and security of patients, visitors, staff, property, assets, and organizational information. Maintains compliance with applicable security regulations, standards, and organizational policies. Conducts security assessments, inspections, and monitoring activities, including oversight of physical security technologies and digital risk monitoring programs. Oversee efforts to identify, assess, and mitigate online threats, publicly exposed information, and reputational risks through ongoing monitoring, threat intelligence, information suppression, and remediation activities. Develops and delivers security-related training and communications to ensure staff are informed of security policies, procedures, and potential risks. Establishes and maintains operational plans for emergency response, disaster recovery, evacuation, workplace violence prevention and response, and other security-related incidents. Coordinates with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as external security partners, to remain current on security threats, directives, regulations, and best practices. Develop and implement protocols that promote a secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience:

Required:
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in physical security, security operations, workplace violence prevention, threat assessment and management, investigations, emergency preparedness, security technology, and law enforcement coordination, with demonstrated success in conducting security risk assessments; developing security strategies, policies, budgets, staffing models, and performance metrics; and exercising strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, change management, and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential matters.

Preferred:
  • Extensive knowledge of healthcare security operations, including the protection of patients, visitors, staff, physicians, facilities, and critical infrastructure, with demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with clinical and administrative leaders, Human Resources, Legal, Risk Management, Marketing and Communications, Information Technology, and law enforcement, as well as strong knowledge of healthcare accreditation standards and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements related to hospital security and workplace safety.

Education/Licensure/Certification:

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and substantial relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS), National Incident Management System (NIMS), and Incident Command System (ICS), including experience supporting hospital emergency operations, incident command and coordination with law enforcement, fire, EMS and other public safety partners.

Preferred:
  • Advanced degree in security management, criminal justice, business administration, healthcare administration, emergency management or related discipline.
  • One or more of the following: Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA), and/or Certified Threat Manager (CTM).
  • Prior law enforcement, military, government security or other relevant public safety experience combined with substantial healthcare security leadership experience.


Pay Scale Information

USD $171,600.00 - USD $267,696.00

The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates who meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Children's Hospital Los Angeles is a nationally ranked, freestanding acute care children's hospital in the East Hollywood district of Los Angeles, on Sunset Boulevard at the corner of Vermont Avenue.
