Location: As Assigned
Reports to: Chief Estimator
Employment Type: Full Time
FLSA Classification: Exempt

Job Summary
The Estimator III leads complex pursuits and major scopes with minimal supervision while providing advanced technical judgment, quality control, and development support to the estimating team. This role integrates work packages, leads risk and constructability analysis, directs quotation strategy, and coordinates estimate decisions with key stakeholders. A typical project-value guide is up to approximately $50 million, but complexity, risk, delivery method, scope integration, and required independence govern assignment.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Lead planning and execution of complex plan-and-specification, design-assist, design-build, and conceptual pursuits.
  • Integrate multiple work packages and validate quantities, productivity, pricing, indirect costs, schedule assumptions, and execution strategy.
  • Lead risk, constructability, contingency, and value-engineering analysis for assigned pursuits.
  • Direct quotation strategy, bid leveling, scope reconciliation, and resolution of subcontractor and vendor gaps.
  • Lead estimate reviews for assigned work and perform peer QA/QC on estimates of limited to moderate risk.
  • Coordinate with clients, designers, Operations, Procurement, and Business Development on scope, pricing, and pursuit strategy.
  • Mentor and direct junior estimators on pursuit assignments without assuming department personnel authority.
  • Contribute to cost history, benchmarks, production data, tools, templates, and process improvement.
  • Support estimate turnover and lessons-learned activities to improve future estimate quality.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant construction estimating or equivalent directly applicable experience, with a strong focus on mechanical, structural, and industrial construction.
• Advanced estimating capability with demonstrated experience independently developing complex self-perform estimates from conceptual through final bid stages.
• Proven experience estimating self-perform scopes including light civil, concrete/structural, structural steel installation, process engineering, and process piping.
• Ability to lead estimate planning, scope development, quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, risk identification, estimate reviews, and cross-functional coordination with minimal supervision.
• Strong command of labor productivity, crew composition, production rates, material and equipment pricing, subcontractor/vendor analysis, indirect costs, general conditions, and proposal development.
• Advanced ability to interpret and quantify mechanical, structural, process piping, process engineering, civil, architectural, and related construction drawings and specifications.
• Demonstrated ability to identify scope gaps, constructability concerns, execution constraints, productivity risks, and interfaces between mechanical, structural, civil, and process scopes.
• Experience developing detailed self-perform estimates for concrete structures, structural steel installation, process piping systems, mechanical systems, equipment installation, and light civil/site work.
• Effective written, verbal, presentation, collaboration, and mentoring skills, with the ability to communicate estimate assumptions, risks, and recommendations to project leadership.
• Proficiency with applicable estimating and takeoff software, Microsoft Office, reporting, CRM, and document-management systems.
• Ability to travel periodically to offices, client locations, and project sites.
• Valid driver's license and insurability when driving is required.
• Advanced proficiency in mechanical/structural estimating and self-perform construction, with demonstrated ability to evaluate quantities, labor requirements, productivity, material costs, equipment needs, and overall execution strategy.

Preferred:
  • Experience with conceptual, design-assist, design-build, or multi-discipline estimating.
  • Relevant degree, technical training, field experience, or professional certification.
  • HCSS HeavyBid and/or Accubid estimating software proficiency
