Minimum Qualifications Summary

  • At least 7 years epidemiology experience.
  • Technical expertise and experience with conducting healthcare program evaluation and project management.
  • Leadership experience in emergency response surveillance and research investigations.
  • Subject Matter Expert in developing course of action and multi-dimensional recommendations for epidemiological studies, healthcare surveillance, and operational research.
  • Experience in facilitating data collection, performing extensive statistical analyses in emergency response teams to assess impact and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Experience performing data reports via SAS, R, Power BI.


Job Objective

The purpose of this requirement is to support CDC in its effort to gather and analyze data from longitudinal pregnant people and infant surveillance and Birth Defects surveillance/registry systems, as well as provide services to support CDC activities related to neonatal abstinence syndrome to make use of existing state bio surveillance and other surveillance tools to improve voluntary, de-identified prenatal and newborn health data. Data may include opioid-related information before and during pregnancy to reduce risks associated with neonatal abstinence syndrome and optimize care. Other CDC activities include monitoring infectious disease threats during pregnancy, including COVID-19, cytomegalovirus, hepatitis C, mpox, syphilis, and Zika.

Responsibilities
  • Run reports, queries, and analyses in Microsoft SQL, REDCap, SAS, R, Power BI or other statistical or data visualization programs and prepare reporting metrics for data completeness, logic checks and reporting
  • Review reports for quality and completeness quarterly and inform jurisdictions of any discrepancies
  • Conduct quality control for surveillance systems and provide reports to jurisdictions
  • Ensure data entry completeness and quality for surveillance systems
  • Recommend changes to database structure and processing and send to COR and CDC Technical Team
  • Maintain a data dictionary for all data files used to create reports, provide to CDC project team on a quarterly basis
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for reporting and quality assurance of the data process, including orientation or training of new staff
  • Maintain code repository via Gitlab or Github to ensure code is current
  • Conduct analyses and write reports for dissemination in peer-reviewed journals and MMWR
  • Provide background information, answer questions, provide updates to stakeholders, including partners and jurisdictions, about the surveillance system via phone calls, emails, and meetings
  • Must be prepared to travel and attend an in person meeting and participate in at least 2-3 site visits at least once a year to a funded jurisdiction. Site visit dates and locations may vary
  • Must be prepared to attend a conference (to be determined) at least twice a year. Annual conferences dates and locations may vary.
