Job purpose

The BorgWarner Arden campus offers two world class technical centers and a cutting-edge manufacturing facility that designs and produces turbos, fan, and fan drive components for the automotive industry. The Arden campus offers a multitude of career opportunities and is in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.

This position will be responsible for the development of programs and processes with respect to health, safety, and environmental policy development, training, and organization development.

Key responsibilities
  • Develops programs and procedures designed to reduce occupational and non-occupational accident/injury/illness experiences.
  • Promotes health and safety awareness throughout the organization though effective employee communications, participation, and programming.
  • Ensures compliance of all programs meets or exceeds OSHA and EPA standards.
  • Ensures plant management teams understand the inter-relationship between on-and-off-the-job safety, occupational and non-occupational health, workers compensation, and medical costs.
  • Develops and recommends formal programs and policies that promote a safe work environment.
  • Educates the management team in ergonomic concepts, assess the need for workplace ergonomics, and ensure an effective and participatory ergonomic culture is developed, maintained, and practiced. Identifies, evaluates, manages, and minimizes all environmental risks for the business.
  • Ensures environmental compliance understood and accepted as a high priority by the management teams.
  • Develops and integrates waste management, minimization, and recycling into all levels of the product development and production processes.
  • Establishes a formal plant safety organization, which will permit a high degree of employee involvement on safety teams, inspection teams, and other aspects of the program.
  • Develops comprehensive wellness programs tailored to the specific needs of the plant population as identified through health care cost analysis.
  • Develops and conducts training programs on industrial safety, industrial hygiene, emergency planning, government regulations, hazardous materials, and other related issues.
  • Ensures that fire protection and security systems are in place and effective, and that all facility personnel are sufficiently trained to respond to emergencies.
  • Coordinates and investigates incident investigation.
  • Supports and participates in Facilities/Maintenance department team activities.
  • Prepares reports and analysis for all levels of the division and Corporation.
  • Understands and adheres to current quality and control policies.
  • Understands and adheres to current health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Perform other duties as needed.


What we're looking for
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field preferably in the fields of Health and Safety or Safety Engineering. At least five years of relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Requires a minimum of 5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment with human resources, industrial health, and safety, environmental, or quality experience.
  • CSP certification preferred. ISO 14001 experience also preferred.
  • Proactive work experience with employee relations, policy development, compensation administration, training and organizational development, and adherence to federal and state laws is required.
  • Must understand OSHA, ANSI, EPA, NEC, and all other applicable Federal and State law, and their application as it relates to the Health and Safety function.
  • Sound judgement, ethical values, communications, decision making, and analytical problem-solving skills are critical.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) is required.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when managing sensitive employee information.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Attendance on the job is essential.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Must be able to follow instructions, safety rules and regulations.


Safety

This position will adhere to the BorgWarner Environmental Health and Safety Program by following all safety rules, procedures, practices, training, and safe use of equipment; this includes use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. This individual will work in a way that stresses the importance of preventing injury, accidents, or illnesses to themselves or co-workers by correcting or reporting unsafe situations, incidents, or occurrences to their Team Lead immediately.

Salary Range:
$107,600 - $147,950
